Coming back to life again after the pandemic. I've always been a fan of Idd Aziz's vocals, so this track hit home for me - this incredible love song in Swahili, one of the languages I grew up with back home in Nairobi."

We welcome producer and DJ Raj el Rey to the BØX BØX family. Raj made his debut in Nairobi's burgeoning electronic music scene in late 2010 and quickly became known for his unrelenting groovy selections, playing everything from deep and afro house to minimal and dub techno. Now based in Malmö, Raj continues to create and play music that blends these elements.

Ease into summer with Raj el Rey's newest release, "Lenana." With its smooth soundscape and percussive grooves, this feel-good track captures the essence of sweet, sun-soaked days.

Episode 49 is here, this time we present Malmö based Shin Di. Shin Di is an alias of Raj Shindi, also known as Raj el Rey. He’s been involved in electronic music since around 2010, as a raver, DJ, promoter, and more recently, producer and label co-head at https://soundcloud.com/minimal-with-love.

As Shin Di, Raj’s focus is on dubby, dusty, minimalistic soundscapes. For this mix, we start off in the realm of dub techno - progressing into some minimal grooves and atmospheric techno through the hour. Enjoy the journey.


Interview with Shin Di:


Q: What made you start DJing? 
A: It all started in my teens with DJ Decks software. Started messing around and mixing tunes together that I would then listen to while gaming/reading - I wanted to have a continuous mix of tunes that I liked, instead of the in-game stuff, or listening to an album one track at a time. I fell in love with the art of DJing from there. I learnt how to use hardware on a dusty pair of CDJ 1000MK2s and a DJM 600 from a local resident DJ at a club in Nairobi just before I turned 18, started to play a few sets here and there, and it took off from there.


Q: Describe your style in three words. 
A: Atmospheric, emotive, and hypnotic.


Q: Your best set in 2023/2024? 
A: Module in Copenhagen in Jan 2024 - I played some groovy house on the Kiosk floor during a takeover night hosted by my friends at Tenebris Occulum. I was supposed to play 3-6am, but the vibe was so good that I ended up playing until 9am - magical night/morning.


Q: Your favorite track right now? 
A: The opening track on this mix, Nikosf. - Autumn Tree


Q: A track you never get tired of? 
A: Unknown Artist - Untitled (Lukea Edit). It’s a great edit of Micky Green - Oh!, such a fantastic tune. 


Q: Where can one find the best falafel in Malmö? 
A: Mr. Falafel at Nobelvägen - standard order is alla grönsäker, blandadsås - and ask for the granatäpplesås on it as well. Trust me. 


Q:  A Malmö DJ you want to highlight? 
A: Oli Neate - great selections and technical skills, and so versatile. One of my favourite DJs to go b2b with, we’ve never done any prep but it has always been a great vibe playing off each other. We once did 9 hours b2b at Plan B in summer 2023, that was special! https://soundcloud.com/olineate

Jesper Aubin and Raj el Rey are not just longtime friends — they’re also the minds behind the Malmö-based record label Minimal With Love (MINWL), a home for deep, stripped-back house music with soul and substance. 

Together, they’ve carved out a unique sound, often sharing the decks in dynamic back-to-back sets that showcase their deep connection and complementary styles. 

Jesper Aubin (also co-founder of House Music With Love) is a seasoned selector with over 20 years behind the decks. He’s all about groove-heavy basslines, whether it’s classic house, minimal, or something with an 80s twist.  

Raj el Rey blends influences from Nairobi to Malmö, with a sound rooted in dubby minimalism and melodic deep house. His selections span house, disco, techno, and beyond — always with a personal, rhythmic touch.
