Under his pen name Chlär, Charles Accarisi sets forth with a full rig manifestation of techno that jolts from one trunk-rattler to the next. From his native Switzerland to his adoptive home Berlin, the potency of his sound has followed him and grown ever larger, an assertive strain of dyed-in-the-wool techno that’s groovy and layered as a mountain rock. Working over and above his standard DJ duties, across A&R, events and sound engineering, Chlär practices full-involvement in much of the music pipeline, starting with his own sound and that of new finds and ending with the music’s final dialogue in public space. He’s been keeping busy, and as half of Funk Assault, co-runner of Bipolar Disorder Rec and founder of Primal Instinct his plate’s more than full, but his just-released first full album on the latter label shows little signs he’s tiring. The Architects of Shadows explores current political and sociological themes as broad as nationalism and social atomisation, rifts that through his many roles in music, he’s working hard to bridge. The promise of that newly connected world comes alive through the primacy of his beats, looping, packed with meaning but immediate nonetheless. Bassiani Podcast 248 is an hour and a half of dizzying basslines and all encompassing loops that bear witness to Chlär’s undeniable skill as techno selector. These are future-ready beats from a techno polymath.

Modern hypnotics from a new techno star.

It's a tale as old as time: techno DJ moves to Berlin to chase a dream. Philippa Pacho is part of the latest wave of talent to tread that familiar path. But don't let that fool you. She's one of the classiest artists around—no TikTok gimmicks here.

Pacho's formative years were spent in her native Stockholm, navigating a vibrant DIY party scene that included warehouse raves and illegal parties. She eventually took up a long-standing residency at beloved local club Under Bron and the experience, as she details in this week's Q&A, sharpened her technical skills, teaching her to handle every type of set—whether opening with patience, supporting a headliner or closing with finesse. She also played with countless touring DJs, from Answer Code Request to Antony Parasole, which ultimately inspired her move to Berlin.

That relocation has firmly paid off. It's a testament to Pacho's talent that you'll find her playing pretty much every big club and festival across Europe, from Berghain and Dekmantel to FOLD and Monument (we were exhausted just looking at her upcoming listings on RA). Other recent highlights include closing out Bassiani's tenth birthday, and back-to-backs with Fadi Mohem and Sandrien. 

Pacho's RA Podcast showcases her preference for classy, hypnotic techno, striking a balance between muscle and subtle groove. Her aptitude for what makes dance floors tick is also evident on her two labels—Phorum Records and positivesource (co-run with Blue Hour)—both of which mirror her DJ style, blending intensity with delicate textures. positivesource has released several standout records, including this year's "Psycho" by BLANKA and Phil Berg's "Psyckik" (which you'll hear on this mix). 

Spanning 70 minutes, RA.980 is a window into Pacho's thoroughly modern sound (the oldest track is from 2018). And yet it retains a refined, sweeping quality. Give it a spin and you'll soon twig why she's in demand on dance floors worldwide.

Hailing from Santiago de Chile, eclectic talent Marcelo Antonio is a formidable voice for deep, mind-bending techno. Since 2018 the DJ/Producer has been putting out a growing number of releases on labels like Float, Keyhole, Methodical, Antiterra, EVOD Music, and delivered killer sets across his native Chile and Europe, honing a class of sound that’s full-bodied, deep and geared for marathon raves. His self-published work via Bandcamp-only outlet Out of Sight too, offers a further glimpse into his intimate studio workings: high-concept and movement driven tracks that foment rhythmic contemplation. His frequent collaborators include widely recognised industry staples like Kwartz, DVS1, Kr!z, Ruben Ganev, TWR72, Border One, Biri and Samuli Kempi, a sounding board comprised of peers that share in his passion for primal loops. It’s an elegant techno that layers up textures and builds up tension second by second, and steers its bow towards a distant and euphoric horizon. This master of mood is here with a number that’ll push your body and mind to the limit, liminal techno that hypnotises and fringes the frontier of techno.
