Monomood was born in the mid-80s in a small village near Dresden. But for more than 20 years, Berlin has been his hometown. As an artist, he is difficult to categorize. What is it? Techno? House? Drum and bass? Or maybe dubstep? How about a quantum of funk or ambient? Well, actually it's always a bit of everything - but always new and fresh. It's hard to find a leitmotif, and yet there is one: quality. Having started with techno in the late '90s and lingering on the drum and bass station for a while, it's fair to say that Monomood now operates in two different yet familiar directions : on the one hand, the vast cosmos of dubby, delay-driven sounds; on the other, heavy bass drums and energetic dancefloor movers. Hence, his catalog features releases at Etui Records, Infinè, Fachwerk and many more.

His aim is to focus on the minimalistic structures of the electronic genre and add his signature stamp by introducing just the right amount of breaks. He has enjoyed residencies at Salon zur wilden Renate and Watergate, played venues like Sisyphos, Hoppetosse and Kater Blau. He shared his understanding of electronic music on labels such as Black Sea Side Music, Lauter.Records or As Usual in over 13 active years. Additionally, he was essential for the birth of Station Endlos in his hometown Halle, where he created a place to get lost in. CVO’s well formed and outstanding sound has carefully developed over the last years. Running the vinyl only label Bladehouse, whose Unknown Artist philosophy allows them to focus on the music rather than the artist themselves

Welcome to another episode of Volume Radio, where Octal Industries joins the studio via phone from his home in Estonia.

OCTAL INDUSTRIES:
Octal Industries is the solo project of Jónas Thor Gudmundsson. The project was originally founded in 2003 by Jonas and Mike Sickinger, the founder of the Octal label. The debut release of their collaboration was the Automatik EP on the Transistor Rhythm output. Couple of years later they joined their friend Deep Chord for a shared 12“ release, which today is a quite a valuable gem for dub techno lovers. The three of them joined hands together later that year to create a 3x12“ release undir the pseudonym Spectral Network. The release was quite limited (111 copies) and was considered one of the most interesting 12“ releases that year by many critics. 
After the release of the Spectral Network eps the duo went for hiatus as other projects took over, also as opportunity for musical collaborations became harder as the Atlantic Ocean divides them. Jonas continued working on other projects as Ruxpin – producing numerous releases along the way. 
In 2011 the duo was asked by the French independent label Entropy Records to do some releases. As Michael was unable to participate, Jonas went on solo and worked on a full-length release, which later became Meeting of the Waves LP. Another remix followed for G.R.I.T. which was hailed by dubtechnoblog.com as the best remix of the year 2012.   
In more recent years, Octal Industries has been working on numerous collaborations with artists such as fellow Icelander OHM - and fruits of their work has been released on labels such as Thule Records, Rawax, Luck of Access, All In Records and many more. 
Octal Industries also released works independently in 2019 an EP entitled Julia Sets on Kontakt Records, which featured a remix from the Detroit legend Mike Huckaby – and his second full-length album Our Seasons, which was released on Vertex in December 2019. 
Octal Industries, although being Icelandic in origin, works and resides in Tallinn, Estonia.
