Ghana is important to the global economy due to its wealth of natural resources. Gold, which also gave the former colony the name "Gold Coast," is Ghana's most important export. Senegal is a country in Francophone Africa, Senegal lies at the western tip of continental Africa. Parts of Senegal have been part of the Islamic world since the 11th century. More than 95 percent of the country's population is Muslim. There is a strong Christian minority in southern Senegal, as Portuguese sailors and members of other European colonial powers established trading posts and mission stations along the coast since 1445. The Europeans, whose dominance on the coast changed hands several times, traded—not least the slave trade—with the empires that alternately controlled the interior until France began to bring these empires under its sovereignty through diplomatic and military means in the 19th century (see here). Ivory Coast is a country in West Africa. It borders Liberia, Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Ghana, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south.

The country, which gained independence from France on August 7, 1960, was politically stable for decades and was governed by the PDCI (Parti Démocratique de Côte d'Ivoire) unity party of then-President Houphouët-Boigny. Export revenues from cocoa and coffee guaranteed relative prosperity. To this day, Ivory Coast remains the world's largest exporter of cocoa. Internal tensions led to the end of PDCI rule in 1990. With increasing economic difficulties caused by the decline in cocoa prices, conflicts escalated and led to a civil war-like situation that tore the country in two in 2002. Since the 2007 peace agreement, efforts have been made to reconcile and reunify Ivory Coast. Since then, it has been one of Africa's fastest-growing economies.

Yamoussoukro has been the official capital since 1983. The seat of government is located in the former capital, Abidjan, which remains the economic and political center of the country.

Lebanon is a country in Western Asia on the Mediterranean Sea. It borders Syria to the north and east and Israel to the south along the Blue Line.
