Austria is a Central European landlocked country with around 9.2 million inhabitants. The bordering states are Germany and the Czech Republic in the north, Slovakia and Hungary in the east, Slovenia and Italy in the south and Switzerland and Liechtenstein in the west.

Austria is a democratic federal state, specifically a semi-presidential republic. Its nine federal states, which emerged largely from the historical crown lands, are Burgenland, Carinthia, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Vienna. The state of Vienna is both the federal capital and the most populous city in the country. Other population centers are Graz, Linz, Salzburg and Innsbruck.

Austria is a mountainous country, with the Eastern Alps taking up around two thirds of the area, which is why the state is also known as the Alpine Republic. The highest mountain in the country is the Großglockner, which lies in the Central Alps in the Hohe Tauern area. The most important settlement and economic areas are the flat and hilly regions (Alpine and Carpathian foothills, Vienna Basin, Graz Basin).

The name Austria was first handed down in its Old High German form “Ostarrichi” in 996. In addition, the Latin name Austria was in use from the early Middle Ages. Originally a border region of the tribal duchy of Bavaria, Austria was made an independent duchy within the Holy Roman Empire in 1156. According to a city charter from 1212, Enns is the oldest city in Austria. After the Babenberg family died out in 1246, the House of Habsburg prevailed in the fight for rule in Austria, which also provided the emperors of the (Roman-)German Empire for centuries. With the destruction of the (Roman-)German Empire by Napoleon, the Austrian Empire was established in 1804. Austria was a leading member of the German Confederation founded in 1815, but was ultimately pushed out of the German Confederation by the growing Prussia in 1866 during the German War. The dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary was then established in 1867.

Today's republic emerged in 1918, after the First World War, which was lost by Austria-Hungary, from the German-speaking parts of the monarchy, initially known as German Austria. The Treaty of Saint-Germain established the state border and the name Republic of Austria. This was accompanied by the loss of South Tyrol and the gain of Burgenland. The First Republic was characterized by domestic political tensions that resulted in civil war and the dictatorship of the corporate state. As a result of the so-called “Anschluss”, the country was under National Socialist rule from 1938 onwards. After the defeat of the German Empire in the Second World War, Austria once again became an independent state. At the end of the Allied occupation in 1955, Austria declared its permanent neutrality and joined the United Nations. Austria has been a member of the Council of Europe since 1956, a founding member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) established in 1961 and a member state of the European Union since 1995.

Kenya is a country in East Africa. The country's capital and largest city is Nairobi, the second megacity is Mombasa. As of 2020, Kenya has the third largest economy in Sub-Saharan Africa after Nigeria and South Africa and the largest in Southeast and Central Africa. Kenya gained independence from Great Britain in December 1963. Following the adoption of a new constitution in August 2010, Kenya is divided into 47 semi-autonomous local authorities, so-called counties, each governed by an elected governor.

Chile Chile is a country in southwestern South America, forming the western edge of the Southern Cone (Cono Sur) of the continent. Chile stretches north-south between latitudes 17° 30′ S and 56° 0′ S, thus extending approximately 4,200 kilometers. From west to east, Chile lies between longitudes 76 and 64 west and has an average length of less than 200 kilometers. Because of this unusual shape—due to its location on the western slope of the Andes mountain range—Chile has often been called "the long country" since its discovery.

The country borders the Pacific Ocean to the west and south, Peru to the north (a length of 160 kilometers), Bolivia to the northeast (861 km), and Argentina to the east (5,308 km). The total length of Chile's land borders is 6,329 kilometers. In addition, Easter Island (Rapa Nui) in the Pacific Ocean, Salas y Gómez Island, the Juan Fernández Islands (including Robinson Crusoe Island), the Desventuradas Islands, and, in the south, the Ildefonso and Diego Ramírez Islands are part of Chile's territory. Chile also claims part of Antarctica. The country has access to the Atlantic Ocean via the Strait of Magellan, which belongs entirely to Chile.

The modern, sovereign state of Chile is one of the most economically and socially stable and prosperous countries in South America, with a high-income economy and a high standard of living. It leads Latin American nations in terms of human development, competitiveness, per capita income, globalization, state of peace, economic freedom, and low perception of corruption. According to the World Bank, Chile is an emerging economy with an upper-middle net national income.

It also ranks highly regionally in terms of government sustainability and democratic development. Chile has been a member of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) since 2010. Chile has the lowest murder rate in the Americas after Canada. The country is a founding member of the United Nations, the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), and the Pacific Alliance.

Chile is seriously threatened by global warming and has lost at least 37% of its water resources since the early 1990s. Water is also not a public good in Chile, and water sources are purchased from private individuals.

Serbia is a landlocked country in Southeastern and Central Europe. Serbia is located in the center of the Balkan Peninsula and borders Hungary to the north, Romania and Bulgaria to the east, North Macedonia and Albania and Kosovo to the south, Montenegro to the southwest, and Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia to the west.

With a population of just over 6.7 million, Serbia ranks 22nd among European countries. The country's capital and metropolis is Belgrade; other major cities are Novi Sad, Niš, Kragujevac, and Subotica. Over 80 percent of the population are Serbs, with larger groups of Magyars, Roma, and Bosniaks also living there.

Serbia's recent history is shaped by its role as the largest constituent state of Yugoslavia. Since the final breakup of Yugoslavia in 2006, it has also been the "sole legal successor" to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, founded in 1992 (2003–2006 as the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro).

Serbia is a member of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) and the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA), and maintains other free trade agreements. The country's economic performance declined sharply as a result of the Yugoslav Wars; it recovered somewhat between 2003 and 2008.[9] After achieving important short-term successes in the EU accession process (including the entry into force of an interim agreement for trade facilitation with the EU and the abolition of visa requirements for Serbian citizens), Serbia submitted its candidacy for membership of the European Union on December 22, 2009, and was granted candidate country status on March 1, 2012.
