Cindy looking down main street,
in the summer heat.
She knew the fair wasn't far off.
The summer isn't ready to give in, 
so she took off for the end of town.

Met her friends and their hunger was clear.
Bought a pizza with some bucks they had,
a few bottles of liquid divine.
So fine for a brief time, 
down near the river.
...away from mom and dad.
Feeling like adults for the first time.

Height of summer, you feel me.
Sidewalk bustle, people pushing past 
beside the busy street.  Shops looking neat.
Restaurant aromas into the eve.
I remember your smile, enjoying the time,
in the downtown feel.

Bird song, and insects humming,  
feeling so present.
Single-engine plane buzzing by
way up high, in a nearly cloudless sky.
The smell of grass in the sun's heat. 
Kids are playing, kicking a ball.
