A consistent outlet for drum and bass since its conception in 1992, at RAM we have a huge discography which is still being added to today. As a result, it only seemed right to look back at some of our most monumental and ground-breaking releases from the last few decades.

Every Thursday, we’ll be featuring a throwback track from our collection, so you can reawaken your inner junglist and transport yourself back to the first time you heard it dropped as we #RamRewind.

But it’s not just the music which has kept us on the genre’s forefront. Our fans have helped support RAM from its very beginnings, especially at live events. Alongside track throwbacks we’ll be posting pictures from renowned venues like the End which played a huge role in our historical heritage.

There's alot of buzz around the new Annix album at Playaz HQ. Not so much an artist album but more of an introduction to them signing exclusively to Playaz and a compilation showcasing the different styles in which they write.The album showcases both solo work from Konichi and Decimal Bass as well as together as Annix. Their work is so prolific that the chances of them releasing a single are very slim however there are talks of artist solo albums coming next year.

Recorded in The Upbeats’ studio and mixed by mastering engineer Stuart Hawkes (Amy Winehouse, Rudimental, Disclosure, Katy B), SSXUB sees these bass music brothers-in-arms unleash four bin-rattling cuts that draw on their twinned production talents.

Shapeshifter and The Upbeats solidified their in-studio bond while they were working together on the Shifter’s chart-topping, platinum-selling album Delta and, as The Upbeats’ Dylan Jones explains, their latest partnership on SSXUB has allowed them to create a set even greater than the sum of its parts.

This next release demonstrates exactly what can happen when you merge a formidable heavyweight with one of the genre’s most promising talents. Jaguar Skills needs little introduction; he’s infamous for his ninja-like DJing skills with years stacked behind the decks. 

As a result, it was no surprise the artist tried his hands at production alongside Chord’s impressive musicality. Already unstoppable from its conception, ‘Lust’ could only be released on an imprint known for its high quality. And RAM Records is proud to unleash this toe-tapping, catchy piece of sonic artwork on the dnb community…One that’s already taken the radio airwaves by storm. 

Opening with a rhythm that curls itself around your aural senses, prepare to be pulled into ‘Lust’ by its funky groove and well-chiselled hooks. The vocal delight of Matti Roots really brings light to the seasonal feel this track creates; an arpeggio of notes underpins each high-hitting voice crescendo. Bright but not without substance, Chords’ production style is instantly recognisable. This debut from Jaguar Skills serves as a perfect platform for the high standards this mix-maker is about to set, as well as the benchmark which Chords has already carved. 
On the flipside, Break holds onto the A-side’s sunny disposition, yet throws down a riddim that hits as heavy as a freight train. The foundations laid by the producer are slightly different, as it rattles forward with clinking percussion, alluding to the kind of drop Break is renowned for. With his distinctive, boundary-pushing drum rolls and bouncy, booming and concise hits, there’s no mistaking a sound which adds another dimension to the remixes’ original. 

You're also served up with another dish which is vastly different from house-guru Monstro. like the previous edit, the record’s humanism winds up within the first thirty seconds, however the seismic impact of its drop rolls out into a house-bassline that thumps with every bar. A genre transition which doesn’t fall short of the original’s production prowess, prepare to hold onto your seats because this serves as the optimal way to wrap up two striking remixes of an already impressive track list. 

Dominating playlists for years to come, this release from RAM is yet again taking the genre to another level. But considering the parties involved, there was no other direction for this record to take.

Featuring the stocky vocal talents of Dynamite MC and the pounding bassline which Origin Unknown carried across generations, ‘Hotness’ still holds its ground within today’s contemporary scene.

Origin Unknown have been highly influential since their first output and you can still see stylistic remnants today throughout the drum and bass genre.

As everyone who’s been paying attention recently will know, Program is the brand new label from Andy C and Scott Bourne’s Ram Records. Having reached an incredible 20 years in the game, Ram have opened their doors to fresh styles and an exciting roster of talent for Program’s release schedule. Kicked off with Frankee’s debut solo single, this new project looks set to become a staple diet of drum & bass DJs across the globe.

Following on from Frankee’s single come one of the scene’s most well known and loved production collectives. Having racked up releases on the biggest and brightest drum & bass labels, it makes perfect sense to add them to Program’s roster, and Wickaman, Hoodlum, Mavrik & RV do not disappoint as they bring with them two outstanding tracks packed with musical promise.

First up ‘One Scratch’ takes you on an epic journey filled with beautiful, wide open soundscapes. Yearning vocals and long, drawn out pads pull you gently in as progressive melodies build and grow towards the drop. A drop that works effortlessly against the stunning backdrop already painted by Wickaman, Hoodlum & Mavrik, underpinning the whole track with a warm bassline and plenty of low sub-bass. This one will undoubtedly have clubbers losing themselves on the dance floor whenever it is dropped.

Then Wickaman & RV take to the studio for another incredible piece of drum & bass music in the form of ‘Sound Clash’. Gentle beats and subtle percussion get things going as the duo head down another epic path. Soon you’re enveloped with rolling hi-passed amen breaks and bouncing bass notes all topped off with expertly placed vocal samples which culminate in a track which will sound incredible on a huge sound system and just as good on your mp3 player.

the last time i recorded a drum & bass set it was on a cassette tape over 10 years ago. in 2012 i was finally able to return to my original love, dive into my old vinyl, and play some jungle: b2b with eats everything at bestival, b2b with totally enormous extinct dinosaurs at secret garden party, and as a guest of bachelors of science at their monthly at monarch in sf. for those of you who were not able to catch one of these rare pilgrimages back to my roots, i have recorded a special set just for you featuring a handful of my all time favorite records. happy new year and i hope you enjoy!
