Written by Philly sound pionneers Gamble & Huff, this little gem first became a hit with Harold Melvin &The Blue Notes and Teddy Pendergrass on the vocals. 

We always loved Thelma Houston's cover, but DJs often play the punchier Harold Melvin & the blue notes version instead, so we tried to give it our little touch to change that.

"Enfant Terrible of the disco scene, Gallic genius Young Pulse returns to GAMM with the second instalment of his "Paris Edits" series. If you copped the first volume then you'll know exactly what's on the menu; funk, soul and disco grooves and no messin' around! We head straight to the club on the A-side with "Enjoy & Relax", as Young Pulse reworks (or is that remixes?) Rhyze's soulful disco stomper to perfection. The re-EQed kick and bubbly bassline are as meaty as your local charcuterie, while the uplifting chord progression adds a subtle hint of fromage to get your tastebuds working overtime. Don't be put off though, I'm thinking more the mild flavour of Brie than the hefty pong of a Pont l’Eveque. Having been one of his biggest festival tunes in the summer of 2014, the Luxxury mix of Greg Wilson’s 'Summer Came My Way' - which originally surfaced on last year’s 'Schooled In The Classics' 12” - was put on the back burner throughout the winter in readiness for a full 2015 release. Juxtaposed by Walter Ego’s equally sublime take on the track, the release marks the first of eight records to be issued over the summer months.

Sometimes composition is a long and arduous process, other times a song arrives fully formed. The latter was the case for Greg when he imagined 'Summer Came My Way' as a vehicle for hitherto unknown vocal forces of nature, The Reynolds - twins Katherine and the song’s lead singer Carmel - who, by beautiful serendipity happened to live within a mile of Greg’s Merseyside home.

Bursting out of LA with a lavish twelve-part re-edit series last year, Luxxury’s brand of hazy, slo-mo reworks - a West Coast Balaeric fusion - has catapulted him onto the world stage. Opening his mammoth eight- hour Berghain set in 2013 with Luxxury’s 'Hotel California' rework, Greg helped bring his Los Angeles vibes to wider attention, bolstered by his subsequent support of other reworks; 'Night Fever' and 'Riders On The Storm'.

A victim of his own success, 'Hotel California' gained Luxxury a little too much notoriety and, after a Wall Street Journal interview began circulating, Warner came down on him like a ton of bricks on finding out he’d used The Eagles’ multitracks. All was resolved however and he’s currently recording his forthcoming album, with great things expected for 2015 and beyond. The Luxxury approach perfectly fitted Greg’s vision of the song and the result is a glorious nine-minute epic, just in time for the summer.

With releases on the legendary Ninja Tune, San Francisco’s murky Symbols and Kerri Chandler’s jackin’ MadTech, Walter Ego’s appeal stretches across the board; from forward thinking house to rough and ready grime. Having got to know the Sheffield musician during recent years, Greg was impressed by what he heard, especially an as yet unreleased project he was working on in collaboration with London singer, Obenewa. Inviting him to remix the track, Walter returned an ethereal yet mechanical take on 'Summer Came My Way', his delicately decaying synths and cold hydraulic rhythm giving the track a brooding quality and placing The Reynolds in an entirely new context.

Following the immediate success of the first two releases on A&R Edits, issued side by side back in May, comes the third instalment, a split 12” with transatlantic reworks served up by the UK’s Sophie Lloyd and the USA’s F.A.M.E. collective.

First up under the re-edit razor is Herb Alpert's 'Rise', a track that reached number one on the US chart upon its release in 1979, making Alpert the first (and only) artist to reach Billboard’s Hot 100 with a vocal ('This Guy's in Love with You', 1968) as well as an instrumental performance. ‘Rise’ was also famously played on import by DJ’s on the UK Jazz-Funk scene at 45rpm (rather than the correct speed, 33rpm). In 1997, the track found a new lease of life when sampled by Sean 'Puffy' Combs, becoming the instrumental bed for Notorious B.I.G.'s hip-hop classic, 'Hypnotise'. Now, 16 years on, London-based producer and DJ Sophie Lloyd breathes fresh life into this infectious groove, crafting a timely dubbed-out rework that's been a highlight of Greg Wilson's sets this summer.

On the flip, the Detroit collective F.A.M.E. don their disco guise for 'Love Making Love 2 U', an edit of the cult 1981 Boogie cut, ‘I Love Makin Love To You’ by Mel Sheppard, another choice tune for Wilson this festival season. The edit first came to his attention when he went to Detroit in June to play the Movement Festival Appreciation Party at the TV Lounge and, during the afternoon soundcheck, heard DJ Mike Petrack playing it. After enquiring, Mike gave Greg a copy, which he played that night to great response. It was also at this same event that he first played Sophie’s ‘Rise’ edit: Gregwilson – Movement-appreciation-party-tv

So both tracks, with their Detroit connection and raw-edge in common, seemed a solid combination for an A&R release.

Absolute top quality Shep Pettibone production from 1983... cut, pasted and reworked, with some 2010 DJ friendly features but trying to treat this pristine slice of soul with the respect it deserves! No compression or EQ were used on the main track, it was simply perfect as it was.

I've been a loooong time fan of this much sought after feel-good track, originally recorded in 1982 by Miss Randy Crawford, and it was not easy finding a new production that could have new ideas for teh dance floor while staying true to its breezy flava...
So I spent 2 years working back and forth on it, improving the step by step work flow on Keyboards, Bass and Drums... Until I ended up with ultimate and Remastered version.
