We couldn’t quite believe it when we heard that Sasha mixed the latest instalment of the Late Night Tales series. Someone so iconic It's been a while since we’ve been treated to something from the legend and Scene Delete shows a whole new side to the house and techno legend.

With sounds inspired by the likes of Steve Reich, Nils Frahm and Max Richter, we are treated to the more contemplative side of Sasha as he ditches the big beats for more sombre sounds. The CD showcases a side to Sasha that we’ve never seen before and we are delighted to delve deeper into it with his Slumber Session mix for i-D.

For those who knew Phil K through his music will know he was a one-of-a-kind talent, a global dance music pioneer who promoted niche producers, and pushed the boundaries of electronic music through technology and raw skill. 

Those lucky enough to have had Phil in their personal life can attest that he was that rare kind of human, a man who approached everyone judgement-free, and with an open heart. He was also the type of person that treated everyone he met with love and respect, and, is if they were a good friend.
 
We were also privileged to have known Phil personally and also honoured to have him as part of the Balance Music family. Back in 2002, he compiled a release that for many is still one of the most significant entries into the Balance Series. It was a statement of the intense passion that Phil had for electronic music, and his ability to effortlessly connect dots between many shades of dance music. At the time no one fused genres like break-beats and house together, but that all changed with Phil K.

Even though it’s with great sadness that we share the news of Phil passing, the joy and the music he gave us will remain forever. 

As a tribute to the great man, we offer you Phil’s incredible Balance Series compilation album number 4 in its full glory.

Being asked to provide an online three and a half hour mix of music is an amazing opportunity to really tell a story, to go places you perhaps don’t often get to go as a DJ and explore a merging of genres that you perhaps seldom get to do (especially not in a club environment). As we all know, 2020 has been a psychologically challenging year and I have not been immune. When I started to conceptualise this mix, my mind was quite far removed from any visions of a smoke-filled venue or sun-drenched festival and was, perhaps more particularly, in a reasonably difficult headspace. The music I was drawn to, that I felt reflected where I was at is included in this mix. This is not a 'traditional style' of DJ mix and it’s most certainly more of a ’slow-burn’ style as some would say, sometimes taking its time to absorb the scenery and taking a few detours along the way. I do hope people listen to this with a patient, open mind and can connect to the aural stories that are told here- the sadness, uncertainty, hope, contemplation and ultimately, the human connection and joy. In parts, I’ve attempted to juxtapose different layers, join some interesting dots and create something beautiful for everyone.
Thank you so much to the Flow folks for asking me to contribute to this excellent series and I hope we can all reflect on 2020, take the gratitude and whatever else we have individually learnt from these circumstances and be the best we can be in 2021. x

Ahh, yes the DJ/Artist Bio section - I really hate these things, but here goes:

When not sharing fresh cut sashimi with malnourished kittens (fluffy ones with big round eyes), you can find this burly beefcake wresting unicorns in his glorious pink & brown luchador attire – it’s not a pretty sight, let me tell you. It’s well advised that you try and catch him on one his better days when he’s attempting to weave together a beautiful deep melodic set on the shores of a lovely tropical island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Ramyt's diligent work ethic and painstaking labors can be credited with having helped advance electronic dance music throughout the islands, opening avenues for artistic expression for others. Along the journey, Ramyt has played an integral role in kick-starting and running 2 clubs in Honolulu: The Living Room and Lotus Soundbar (which won “best sound system” by Club World Awards). He’s also been a partner in creating the much-revered 5520 Ultralounge at the St. Regis Princeville Resort on the beautiful island of Kauai and played a key role in importing some notable acts to Next Door in Honolulu's trendy chinatown club & bar scene. His most recent venture lent him the opportunity to consult another Honolulu club, eleven44, in their DJ booth design and sound system installation, which is arguably one of the top club systems in Hawaii.

His exploits as a DJ and ventures as an organizer of chic upscale events have helped him secure headlining sets for top end establishments such as Salvatore Ferragamo, DKNY, Emporio Armani, Luxury Row Waikiki (Tiffany & Co, Chanel, YSL, Gucci), Nobu and Morimoto Waikiki. Ramyt has also had the honor of opening for and playing alongside world class DJ’s such as John Digweed, Sasha, Danny Howells, DJ Tennis, Jimmy Van M, Lee Burridge, BT, Behrouz, Satoshi Tomiie, Dubfire, Dimitri from Paris, Kaskade, Ko Kimura, Miguel Migs, Marques Wyatt, Mark Farina, Low End Specialists, Little Louie Vega, and Moshic just to name a few. Ramyt's accolades as a dj and praises as a promoter, known for creating amazing vibes and parties, have also lent him the opportunity to be featured in the first issue of the Modern Luxury Hawaii magazine as well as the internationally distributed BPM Mag.


In fall of 2012 Ramyt was invited to join Faciendo, an international collective of DJ's lead by Desyn Masiello, Tom Morgan, BalErik, Dory and Nick DK. A few months later he was also invited to be head resident DJ for the house music nights at The Republik, where he re-united with his longtime friend Jimmy Lee to create Foundation.

Ramyt has an ability to create a beautiful, lush energy and vibe at the most upscale ultralounge - to the simplest settings, on the edge of a cliff party with the backdrop of the picturesque Makapuu Bay. His passion for the music and dedication to creating an inspiring, classy atmosphere through his melodies have helped him gain admiration as one of the more respected characters in Hawaii’s ever-growing electronic music society.
