He used to have one friend though, but Hook doesn't even talk with them anymore after a certain incident - one revolving around Hook fishing up something he wasn't supposed to see.

This encounter happens some time after exiting the Dredge. The encounter itself is optional and you're given the choice to not interact with Hook at all.
