Kadeejah Streets Live Open 2 Close for Control Room @ Kremwerk (2-24-22)

Sometimes you realize that it's burn day and you have WAY too much leftover meat in various coolers at somewhat questionable temperatures. So you pull the grill out to the bar, and fire her up. Other campmates bring more food, you get out the megaphone and feed the neighborhood all day. If you're lucky, your favorite dj from home (and role model camp creator)will have camped with you that year and magically have 12 hours of songs with words on them AND be in the mood to not leave the decks all day. History will be made and a favorite tradition formed. Minds blown, songs sung at the top of many lungs, and much dust kicked up by many boots.

Years later you'll want to start a soundcloud page for camp, and maybe drag your feet for a while, but along will come a mix, slaved away on throughout a pandemic, by the very dj that set the tone for that magical experience. Part of a series representing our remergence from said pandemic, and a certain psychedelic therapy that feels like a romp around the playa. So you’ll start the soundcloud and just like the Annual Impromptu Questionable Meat Bonanza, a new platform for us to express ourselves will be created under the guidance of the same dj who’s already had such an indelible impact on our culture.

Live at Caravan (5-2022)

Excited to release my set from LIB 20-Year Anniversary!  Every LIB experience for me seems to top the last.  

This year was special as I hosted Camp Tropical for the first time and had my daughter, Cerise, there for the first time since 2019.  And it was LIB's 20th year, and a brilliant one!

Huge thank you to the Flemming Brothers - Jesse, Dede and Josh and team for producing the Fest, to Patricio Motta for producing the Junkyard Stage I played on, and to Todd Anisman for the ChinoSound!

I always put a lot of effort into my LIB sets, and this year no exception but with the extra challenge of extra responsibility x 2 - organizing a Tropical group camp, and caring for my daughter, who made a few visits to the DJ booth during this set as well.

Honestly I did feel a little less focused that normal up there and wasn't sure how I was going to feel about my set when I got the recording.  I'm a harsh self-critic but I actually love this mix as much as any of the 6 others I've played at this lovely fest :)

I definitely play with a certain aesthetic at LIB, which is to honor the crossing of the underground and mainstream in my own way.  I describe this set as banging and uplifting, with carefully chosen vocals.  I mean a festival is a celebration, and this just year 2 out of the pandemic I'm definitely favoring uplifting over dark.  

Ok, I do favor that generally, but same time I am processing some darkness over the past 2 years as I've experienced huge losses.  Last year's LIB I was processing the recent demise of my marriage, while this year I was processing the loss of my mom last September.

Recently in our West Coast underground music community we have lost some very special people and there's been a lot of sadness over that, especially this past week.  

One of the very best tools for processing loss is of course music and dance - I hope this set brings you light and joy in these challenging times <3

What do you play when you're closing down an inspiring weekend retreat celebrating 20 years of Shameless? Here you go!

Although the recording ended up with a few random pops/crackles along with an 8 second moment where a CDJ died mid mix (not sure WTF happened there?!), I decided to move past the imperfections and share this moment in time. 

I won't ever forget following John Tejada's epic 3 hour journey to close out our 20 year celebration riding into the morning together.

This past July, sometime after 4am, revelers at the annual Sunset Campout, a weekend long event embedded deep in the Sierra mountains found themselves dancing riverside. Surrounded by trees, rocks, a giant bridge over water with a small arsenal of twinkling LED and projection light bouncing off every corner Galen went on the decks. Slotting himself on the side stage at a time easily looked over, arriving almost felt like you had found the secret party at the party. Galen, one of the trio responsible for the 22 year strong Sunset Sound System was dressed in a perfectly Cali-cowboy get-up ready to take family and friends into the day as the sun approached. Keeping things locked at 127, this had to be one of the most unique sets of the weekend, not an easy thing to accomplish after sets by Idjut Boys, KZA, and Red Axes. And yet, who better to entertain notions of a west-coast psychadelic weekend rave then a man who has been working dance-floors on this side of the US for 25 years. Weaving through the bubbly swirly hip-hopish techno sounds that have become his signature, disco dub classics and dirty baseline heavy jams that set a net on dancers, this set holds so many surprises. Needless to say we have been hounding him for this recording ever since.

Sometimes when the guy who was directing traffic all weekend for an event decides to step behind the decks, they are depleted of energy and motive to move dancers. Sometimes, like in this case, the host of the weekend knows just what to do, you are in their house and no only do they want you to feel welcome, they want so show you all their nice things.
