The history of Invisible Fortress started long time ago in the pre-pandemic year of 2018 in an (almost) sane world far far away, when two people met on Reddit - a vocalist who wanted to tell stories, and a guitarist who just wanted to write beautiful metal music for a sad world. Unfortunately, they were from different countries, forced into distancing and online collaboration before it was (cool) mandatory.

And that’s how the story of Jack (of Seattle, USA) and Oskar (of Deadmonton, Canada) began.

Oskar has been writing metal music for most of his (nerdy) adult life, and was a founder of bands such as Samandriel and Storm Horizon. Outside of his full time job, he plays guitar, records music, babysits his parrot, watches footb... soccer, and does some other nerdy things like playing video games, watching sci-fi, and going grocery shopping with his girlfriend.

Jack grew up on a healthy diet of classic rock and had been itching to join a metal project for years. After failing to find anyone locally who shared his taste, he was forced to outsource to the frozen north. Now that he has given up on rescuing his dwindling coolness, he proudly claims the titles of girl dad, tea party host, ballerina dancer, and silly beast. He’s pretty sure his scaly friend Mr Snake would gladly eat Oskar’s parrot (all the more reason for long distance). When work is done and the kids are in bed, he spends his time writing the stories of the lost and forgotten, the heroes of eons past.

Their debut album, Sojourner, released in October 2020, was under development for two years, and the release coincided with the middle of the pandemic.  The album, like most metal, was planned as dark and gloomy, but has been overshadowed by the state of the world, becoming more like a soundtrack to the current reality. It tells the story of a person leaving their homeland devastated by darkness, descending into regret and madness, being rescued by a force of light, and returning home to rally their people together against the darkness.
