The second installment in our mix series comes from Bjarnar Jónsson who runs the outstanding Ohm Series label. With a back catalogue spanning over twenty years, Ohm is a mainstay of the deep techno scene. He appeared on Lempuyang in June this year with Octal Industries, and also features on the label's one year anniversary compilation. He's also a thoroughly nice bloke and a fucking good DJ.

Kenneth Christiansen is a well-known figure in the dub techno music industry.  He is the owner of Echocord, one of the most relevant dub techno labels, which has recently celebrated 20 years of activity. Since the late 1990s, Kenneth has frequently been spinning at Tresor in Berlin and other popular clubs across Europe.  His career in the genre dates back to his time spent working in record stores in the 1990s.

An imitation of a dense Vietnamese jungle in one of the Saturn settlements attracts by its refreshing coolness. The areas overgrown with reeds make up the natural boundaries of the dancefloor. A party of the space vibe fans activates the inner metronome. The response of the emotional palette signifies the launch of Gilles Wasserman's multisensory communication. The music of atomic numbers analyses the surrounding space in real-time to form a collective composition in which anyone present can become an artist or the creator of some unusual masterpiece. Dorisburg's healing sound interacts with Claudio PRC's ufological oscillations and harmonic wind improvisations in the remix for Francis Harris.

@insect-o composes music between ambient, dub and techno. In 1998 he founded the label @etui-records. His latest EP Sandstones came out in March 2023. In the tracks, he combines field recordings with rippling chords, soundscapes from his modular synthesizer and a fat bottom-end. But there is always more to discover. Besides his music, the Dresden-based artist shares a big passion for travelling. At the Atacama desert, he found the inspiration for his first full-length, released in 2018. With Melbourne’s @echoinspectors he recorded Bourne Dub and Bribie Dub, which has been released on Australian Primary [Colours] imprint. Insect O. is an old hand in Dresden’s electronic music scene. Enthusiastic about the radio show electronics on East German radio station DT64 in the early nineties he started buying records and making music at the age of 14. In the late 90s, he was a co-promoter and resident DJ of Dresden’s famous techno club Flugzeugwerft. Today he organizes workshops about music production for @davefestival in Dresden. DAVE Live Jam invites artists to bring their gear for a 2 hours music jam.

For the next ep of Spectral Voices I invited @ohm-599575574, a mainstay of the Icelandic techno scene with over 20 releases on labels such as Thule records, Rawax, Kontakt, Solid Groove, Taped Artifact, Ranges, Vade mecum, Vuo records and AE Recordings which he co-ran with Octal Industries and Thor from Thule Records.

Now, Ohm runs his own imprint called 'Ohm Series', where he shines a light on a mixture of well-beloved veterans and some vibrant new names pushing techno's sonic boundaries. His integrity to the dub techno sound is the cornerstone of its operation.

I play for most of the first hour, then Ohm's mix starts from 53mins.

Now based in Berlin, his club shows at places like Club der Visionäre have bought in some Avenue Red regulars including the likes of OHM str8 outta Copenhagen, with whom Anthony is fast becoming a strong music release cohort... it's so great to see the true underground deep music heads all coming together! :)
