LA-based Hologram Teen (aka Morgane Lhote) returns to Ransom Note Records with her third album entitled “Day-Glo Chaos”, an unabashedly nostalgic musical love letter to the 1980s. Offering a mixture of cinematic strings, 80s French pop, video game soundtracks, a dash of Drum and Bass and vocoder vocals, this album feels like living in a vintage arcade.
 
Hologram Teen talks of having drawn inspiration behind the album from driving around Los Angeles at night, the videogame Out Run, coffee-fuelled musical experimentation, Baroque keyboard parts, Neil Young’s “Trans”, 1980s French pop culture, Air’s string parts and her teenage years in Paris - all elements that contributed to the creation of ‘Day-Glo Chaos’, but that’s not all.
 
The basis of the album was a synth sound that she created for the song “Dalston Wizardzz” on her previous R$N outing “Pizza Conspiracy”. Morgane liked its airiness and soundtrack-like vibe and wanted to build a collection of songs around it, with those string pads as the starting point and backbone for all the new tracks in ‘Day-Glo Chaos’. What started as more cinematic tracks quickly evolved into kinetic and upbeat 80s pop songs. Her love for driving around LA at night listening to electronic music conjured up those new songs as little vignettes that would work as musical companions for her late-night excursions. 
 

On the production side of things, Morgane wanted to keep it simple and cohesive by having a limited palette of sounds and only using a handful of instruments at most. She used a TR-707 for the drum parts, an Analog synth bass, the glassy sounding orchestral strings melodies she created on Ableton Live and a couple of extra synths like a DX7.


‘Day-Glo Chaos’ transmits hilarious happiness in a contagious way. The ideal album to stream this Summer for guaranteed feel-good vibrations.

Inspired by LA life, vintage video games, coffee-fuelled musical experimentation, Baroque keyboard parts, Neil Young’s “Trans”, and 1980s French pop culture, Hologram Teen found elements that contributed to the creation of ‘Day-Glo Chaos’, but that’s not all.

The basis of the album was a synth sound that the artist created for the song “Dalston Wizardzz” on her previous R$N outing “Pizza Conspiracy”. Morgane liked its airiness and soundtrack-like vibe and wanted to build a collection of songs around it, with those string pads as the starting point and backbone for all the new tracks in ‘Day-Glo Chaos’. The first single, 'Valley Nights (Burnin’)', is a synthy ode to the 80s and evokes Hologram Teen’s love story with her home base in Los Angeles and driving through the city at night. It’s suddenly 1983. You’re driving a DMC DeLorean through a bright tunnel whilst the need to sip on a cold beer invades your thoughts. 'Valley Nights (Burnin’)' is playing on the radio and that’s all you want to hear right now.

Una maestra introducción que pone la miel en la boca de lo que se viene con Hologram Teen.

The mighty Flug 8 returns to Ransom Note Records with his incredible new album, Bermuda LP, for another solo mission into deep space. His first new music on Ransom Note Records since the 2020 LP, Electric Fields, Fluggy (aka Daniel Herrmann) treats us to nine new etherial moonscapes, that twinkle and pulse like the northern lights themselves. There is no sound in space but, if there was, we’re preGy sure it’d sound something like this!

The zero gravity feel of first single, Raifufku Maru, transports us beyond the asteroid belt with it’s atonal bleeps and mechanical sounds. The noise soon gives way to some truly epic, histrionic synth chords though, putting the listener into stasis, stuck motionless in spacetime as the music wash over our corporeal bodies.

Ransom Note Records are hyped to once again be working with Bristol-based DJ & producer-extraordinaire, Chez de Milo! This time, we’ve put together a remix package of his breakthrough So It Goes EP, showcasing some of today’s hottest producers, taking us on a whirlwind tour of the current European dance scene.

First out of the traps is Belgian-Tunisian DJ & producer, Sara Dziri, who’s delivered a truly epic version of Durga Lesson. Being resident at the legendary Fuse Club Brussels has clearly given Sara a deep insight into what makes for a proper dancefloor banger - a skill she has employed here in ecstatic abundance! Bouncy & fun, yet means absolute business.

Berlin’s Mr TC’s steps up next, with an incendiary, techno-tastic reimagining of So It Goes. Containing more bleeps than a supermarket checkout, this heads down groover pushes all the right buttons to get you super-marching!

South-West England Folk-Tronica duo Orbury Common, of PRAH Recordings fame, are professionals at exploring the warped night life of this Sceptred Isle. Their take on Sister Dex does not disappoint either, with a mechanical underpinning that’s beautifully juxtaposed by the natural feel of the synth harmonies and sample laden melodies.

Rounding off the package, is Manchester based newcomer Lapalace, dropping breakbeat bombs and distorted detonations in her assault on Wadham. Not for the faint of heart, Laplace, aka Lily Mumby, turns the noise up to eleven, in her brief, bassy rejig of Chez’s meditative original piece.

The mighty C.A.R. returns to Ransom Note Records with splendid new single, Anzu, for another excursion into hitherto uncharted territory. Their first new music on Ransom Note Records since the 2020 LP, Crossing Prior Street, C.A.R. (aka Chloé Raunet + Joni Green on live duties) treats us to an Avant Pop masterpiece, which conceals a somewhat insalubrious undercurrent...

Anzu is a song drenched in personal history, written about bygone days, when life revolved around a now lost pub in a sewn-up pocket of town. References might scream from the sleeve, but we’re not swimming in nostalgia. This is a deceivingly dark song. Any sweetness chased at the time ain’t to be sugar-coated.

On the flip side, R$N Records and Bytes regular GLOK (a.k.a. Andy Bell of Ride and Oasis fame) has reworked Anzu into an utterly filthy little basement club number. Dripping in sordid fervour, the wonky bass line arrives like a shot the chest cavity, leaving us a little breathless at first. The sheer force of the forward momentum of it soon has us back on our feet though, as we’re propelled onto the dance floor, where this remix has very firmly made its home.

Available on super limited edition 7”, clear vinyl (only 50 copies pressed!), they come with an exclusive, hand printed tote bag, fanzine, poster AND badge pack at a bargain price of just £35.. One for all the collectors out there!

Ransom Note Records sub label Insult To Injury are delighted to welcome back analogue techno pioneers Buran with their second full length excursion for the label, in the form of The Hunter EP. Born of the mechanical machinations of Joe Wretham and Ian Scott, their latest instalment of furious face melters is aimed squarely at the post midnight dancefloor, bubbling away with squelchy 303 potions and black magic beats.

First single, Alnitak, opens the EP and immediately we’re confronted with Buran’s inimitable modus operandi; slash and burn Acid Techno with a scorched earth ethos. A full frontal assault of acidic sorcery, lobbing techno bangers over the ramparts as the castle walls are pummelled. Hold onto your hats, it’s not for the faint of heart!

Alnilam is next out the gate, ricocheting off the armour plating of its enemies, bouncing along and razing everything in its path to the ground. We’re delivered brief respite from the brutality with the addition of some celestial vocal edits, whose angelic timbres provide juxtaposition to the synthetic onslaught. As the smoke clears, the penultimate Mintaka glides into view. Wonderfully barbed, but gloriously lush chords propel the track forward, over a bed over automaton drum machines and staccato blips, bleeps and swirling noise.

Rounding off, ITI are hyped to have the mighty Void Complet on remix duties. Fresh off the back of his breakthrough release on CHOBU Records, London based super producer Chog Burley takes Alnitak and reimagines it in his own image. Launching with a rich, metallic arpeggio, we’re drawn into an analogue dream, before realising that’s all a ruse. We have been lulled into a false sense of security, because we’re about to be clattered around the head by that savage 303 riff from the original. We’re caught in the crossfire as glitched vocals and bit crushed acid lines vie for dominance. This correspondent knows not how to fully encapsulate the terror of this remix… watch out dance floors around the world!
