Ransom Note stalwart BAWRUT presents a new sound in his debut album ‘In the Middle’, a striking eleven-track journey through sunset pop, electronic melancholia and delusive migrations taking place around the Mediterranean.

'Crossing for a Golden Blanket' is the first track to be lifted from the album. Perhaps the strongest and hardest hitting track on the LP, its message is reflected in the loops that never quite close, giving a sense of instability, shaping a dark digital sea with a refugee's makeshift dinghy about to capsize at its centre. The morse code S.O.S. announces the end of the struggle before a risky rescue. “The song ends between hope and uncertainty”.

The LP ‘In the Middle’ is a reflection on recent years. A story about movement and migration around the Mediterranean but also the notion of a moving identity. It’s about the luck of the drawer, finding yourself born in the middle of the ‘West’, whilst others strive to get here with the hope of a better life. It’s about being in the middle of music and cultures and the beautiful accidents that this movement has produced over the years. Above all, it’s a celebration of the beauty of the movement to a better life, to create something new, with hope and optimism whatever the circumstances. It’s a celebration of diversity and inclusivity.

“I was born in Gorizia, a city with a centuries-old, multi-ethnic identity literally split in two by a border (Italy and Slovenia) after the Second World War. Perhaps for this reason I have always felt closer and more aligned with the encounters between cultures and people, instead of the rigid idea of nationalism and the notion of a unique identity.
Through my music I try to combine languages and sounds to make a record that celebrates the union, the meeting and crossing of experiences.” – Bawrut

To celebrate his new single ‘Poplar’, a new extract from his forthcoming debut album (January 2022), Blutch invited two respected French producers to rework his new track: half of Scratch Massive, Maud Geffray, and one of the most iconic French electro ambassadors, Jennifer Cardini, accompanied by Damon Jee.

Both producer delivers a galvanizing and soaring club rework. A creative use of the track’s richness and vocals between dancing keys and italo vibes.

Maud Geffray’s rework turns ‘Poplar’ in a kaleidoscopic blend of good vibes full of happiness and light. A psychedelic and colorful vision fusing liquid notes and touch of the original vocal.

Jennifer Cardini delivers a darker and a tougher version from the start with percussive sounds and gradually swells with synths and kicks that pop, with fantomatic sample of the original vocal. Between light and darkness, an irresistibly dancing techno track.

Ransom Note's recent signing Bawrut has been making a bit of a name for himself. Following his debut on Phantasy earlier in 2019, Joshua James returns to the label with ‘Journeys In Love’, complimented by a propulsive remix from Joe Goddard.

Flipping the ruthless sleaze and hi-NRG of ‘Coarse’ on its head, the XOYO and Rinse FM resident presents a release that soundtracks the deeper, more vulnerable and always joyous aspects of London’s queer nightlife culture.

‘Journeys In Love’ lands with immediate effect, building steadily and confidently around a trippy sample and the hugely pleasurable push-and-pull of James’ synths. Breathing deeply and suspended in red-light, James’ new production tastefully recalls the late-hour, sensual attitude classic NYC deep house, while transmissions of a bottom-heavy bass weight anchor the track in the capital’s defiant after-hours scene. Oh my god they did it! Good Guy Mikesh and Filburt once again joined forces to bring you a listening experience we humbly call „The Past, The Present, The Future EP“.   
In case these names don’t ring a bell, use a so called search engine and check their body of work. Someone told me that there is absolutely no other doing what they be doing. Anyway, back to the EP. Mikesh and Filburt did some cleaning up on their hidden hard drive. They found some unfinished gems which they polished until it became what you are about to hear. Next to the remastered classics ‚Gold Snake‘ and ‚Come on‘ we offer you three brand new originals. And let us tell you that these tunes go down smooth like milk and honey.
