Dutch XXX imprint is back with its 7th release assembled from four track, 2 from North-American producer Spencer Miles, and 2 from Lithuanian young rising star Zakmina.
Spencer Miles is muisician based in Portland, Oregon. Been already seen with his debut release on Bordello A Parigi in 2018, he is back now to the XXX with his new work.
Heady kicks, claps and pads, vocals that seem to have lost faith and hope in the reality of the passing, Inverted Reallity doesn't even go halfway to describing this one. Next up on XXX, the Dutch label run by DJ and producr SHMLSS, is good friend and Bordello A Parigi alumni Stijn Sadée. After two contributions to earlier releases for the label, he's now set to release his first original EP on the label, which features a remix from Smala boss Manfredas that they locked in after the Lithuanian producer saw Stijn play live last year. The aesthetics of the label are down to Stijn's brother Thomas who worked closely with him to create something that fitted with the music and his influences.

Over the last month, the music and events industry has entered unchartered territory due to the Covid-19 lockdown, and artists and online media have found themselves in a financially vulnerable position with much more time on their hands.

To help some of those artists, and provide Ransom Note with much-needed financial support, three weeks ago we reached out to some friends of the website with the challenge to make a track in collaboration with another producer, musician or vocalist, remotely, in 10 days. The result is ‘Pen Pals’: a compilation featuring 15 collaborations from 32 artists.

Due to the current situation we’ve increased royalties for all artists involved and, whilst the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions apply, accounting will be processed fortnightly. Profits from the compilation will also provide financial support for Ransom Note who have been heavily impacted by the halt of the events industry.

Ransom Note presents Pen Pals [Compilation Sampler]

Following the release of his first EP on Reach Another System and tracks amongst several well-respected artists on Worst Records and Artifical Horizon, Itako delivers here a new EP with a strong dystopic vibe. Themed around the words uttered by the father of the atomic bomb when he realized that the world would never be the same after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it is the perfect soundtrack for these uncertain times.

 ‘The Destroyer of Worlds’ waltz in with its 90 BPMs of pure lo-fi delight. Among its ethereal pads and Carpenteresque arps gently guided by the words of Oppenheimer in the background, it is driven by almost ritual-like kicks as deep as atomic blasts.

Isolating, aka the industrial alter ego of Stephen Hindman from The Golden Filter, releases their debut album ‘Perennial’ on 11 September via 4GN3S. 

Following the acclaimed debut EP ‘System’ released on Optimo Music in May 2020, ‘Perennial’ is a disquieting and dystopian album which shifts from the ambient and atmospheric ‘Mortification’ to the IDM inspired electro of ‘Sacrament’. Each of the eleven tracks melding into each other with an unsettling and brooding anxiety.

‘Perennial’ mirrors the concepts behind ’Perennial Philosophy’ by Aldous Huxley. Solitarily created in London room on a Modular system, ‘Perennial’ tackles the perspective in spirituality that views all of the world's religions as sharing a single, metaphysical origin, with a nod to the Lucretius quote; “To such heights of evil are men driven by religion.”

Isolating said: “During lockdown, between analog sonic meanderings, I read Aldous Huxley’s book, ‘Perennial Philosophy’ - essentially arguing that there is only one religion and it just splintered off into sects. Interesting in the same way that cults are interesting. That said, this album is fully unreligious… Just looking purely within…. Wholly unsacred.”
