In 1997, Jay Dee was the still new kid on the block. With the success of singles like Runnin' (Pharcyde), and Stakes is High, he had his own undeniable sound, but the majors still weren't sold.
This is proof of that.  
Jay was solicited by a lot of majors to do remixes for artists on their rosters. Time and time again, they would go with someone else. 
The joints he was coming up with were fucking nuts, but to no avail. In one case, he was led to believe that one of his mixes got thru, only to see another producers remix when the 12" showed up at Record Time. 
I told him fuck it I wanna put it out.
I had never put a record out. Jay trusted me.
Got an investor. 
Then I made a phone call.
Chris Manak, aka Peanut Butter Wolf, was my rep at TRC distribution in California. I was working at Street Corner Music ordering records from him every week. I got the #'s 
from him. Sent the masters over and we had a record.
The first pressing was on blue vinyl. Limited to 1500 copies. 
Gone.
Second press was on green vinyl.
Gone.
I also learned to listen to test presses on multiple turntables.
There was a skip in the middle of the fucking Woo Hah rmx that did NOT SKIP on my 1200. Swear to god I had the onlt 12 that could play that shit. It skipped on EVERY other 1200 turntable in the world. Fucked up. Check your test pressings on a few setups. But, that's fixed now. These records go for $100 plus on the internets these days. 
Remastered by Dave Cooley directly from a sealed blue copy.
Why? Because the plates broke at the plant, and I lost the master in a flood 3 years later. That's why.

After hearing a few bars of a particular arrangement, Eric Roberson was inspired to write. The first words uttered: Mr. Officer, can you spare some change? If they say art imitates life. Then Mr. Officer, by Jeff n Fess, feat. Eric Roberson, is art’s response to life. "Some people march, some people protest; we make music," says DJ Jazzy Jeff of the motivation behind releasing Mr. Officer. Increasing reports of police brutality and deaths of unarmed Black men at the hands of law enforcement led to this musical expression of hurt, anger and frustration. Mr. Officer is produced by The Playlist A-Team, comprised of DJ Jazzy Jeff, Stro Elliot, Daniel Crawford, Steve McKie, Kaidi Tatham and Eric Lau. This ensemble of gifted musicians worked together to create a sound that uncomplicated, yet moving. Lyricists Eric Roberson and Rhymefest shine light this complex and emotional issue with heartfelt simplicity.

Extra Medium is a production duo: Buscrates 16-Bit Ensemble and Sam Champ. This is their first project together, although the two have been close friends for two decades. The EP will be available both digitally and as a 10" April 29, 2013. It will include 4 tracks from their upcoming album release.

The concept of the album is that the foundation for every song comes from a single sample source: a particular piece of vinyl that's neither rare nor well-known outside of a handful of producers. What began as a friendly two-man beat competition grew into a full scale project that includes over a half dozen vocalists, an executive producer (OP! from I Love Vinyl), and a Philadelphia-based record label (Record Breakin' Music). The album is schedule for a Fall 2013 release.
