Plastic Impulse

The Hundred In The Hands return with their third album Love In The Black Stack; a swoony late-night soundtrack to the catastrophic present. 

Eleanore Everdell and Jason Friedman began working on these intimate new songs and ambient tracks using cassettes recorded in the late ‘90’s, demos, voice-memos, field recordings and other half-forgotten ephemera collected over the years. They then went back into the studio with producers Vito Roccoforte and Gabriel Andruzzi (The Rapture, Vito and Druzzi) -- who both add their indelible stylistic synth and percussion work -- and together helped re-work the material for an album conceived as the score to a larger art installation/performance piece. 

The final 11 songs yo-yo from the insular romance of “I Follow”, “Pale Moon Out” and “Felt A Love” to the jagged pulse of “Proof of Love”, “Red Eyes Rising” and cascading drive of “Wade Up”; alternately grounded in the deep searching harmonies of Eleanore’s layered vocals and the purposeful silences and slipped rhythms of the off-kilter production. 

With lyrical through-lines moving from satellites and constellations “high above the earth,” through “telephones ringing in empty rooms” and unwinding under rising tides — and with themes loosely touching on gentrification, environmental collapse, and occult technological faiths — Love in the Black Stack is an attempt to find the gaps still ungoverned by these global forces and to create sense and connection from incomprehension and dislocation.

This is the first release since 2012’s Red Night (Warp) and the first for their label New Ancestors: a journal/label focusing on artist-to-artist relationships and patient journalism examining, supporting and challenging vital culture

FREEZ - Bad Weed

Jangly dream pop quartet BOYS have announced the forthcoming release of Dreamland, the lead single and title-track from their second EP out later this summer.

Following a successful collaboration with Yuck’s Max Bloom on their debut EP last year, the band’s aptly-titled latest effort sees them delve further into their lo-fi sound, with hazy guitars and hypnotic vocals sparking comparisons to the likes of Beach Fossils, Real Estate and Wild Nothing.

Postiljonen is a dream pop trio deriving from Scandinavia. The band emerged quietly back in September 2011 and is composed of Norwegian vocalist Mia Bøe alongside Swedish multi-instrumentalists Daniel Sjörs and Joel Nyström Holm.

After releasing a handful of online only singles in their native Scandinavia (including the heartbreaking interpretation of Whitney Houston’s classic ‘How Will I Know’, renamed here to ‘All That We Had Is Lost’) the trio have managed to create a highly characteristic sound, where ethereal and alluring vocals are interwoven in a mystical, ambient, dreamy and lovable expression. They have been compared to the likes of M83, Air France, Sigur Ros, jj and Cocteau Twins.

Taking inspiration from old black and white movies, the golden 80s, Balearic scenery, sleepless summer nights and describe themselves as nostalgic daydreamers, all of which mirrors beautifully within Skyer’s ten songs.

Featuring singles ‘Supreme’ and Atlantis’, Skyer is summery pop music at its best; made for lazy days and dreamy nights.

Skyer is released on July 22 2013.
