After a series of successful digital releases, Soukah bursts onto the vinyl scene, presenting a sound crafted over the course of almost a decade. His past works range from Industrial Noise to his own unique take on Dubstep. RARE1 showcases Soukah's versatile approach to production - His organic style, based on dark synthesis and unorthodox drum patterns, is a true representation of the Rarefied sound. 
'JAK FOU' is the result of six months of studio time; the classical piano riff combined with haunting percussion results in an experience akin to ingesting 18 grams of psycobilin. On the flip side 'Loner' is a far darker, moodier affair. Written solely by candlelight, the production evokes the darkest elements of Soukah's soul. This track is best enjoyed alone, in the wilderness.

Glume & Phossa - SILKWORM EP [Bandcamp]

It seems like only yesterday I was featuring Barrett‘s ‘Beneath Us‘ EP courtesy of Instigate Recordings. Like many of Instigate‘s releases, it’s one that will remain in rotation for a while. However the label shows no sign of letting up with an immediate return, by presenting the heavyweight sounds of LA brothers, Tetrad and Ahkur. For ‘Moral Terror‘ EP the pair display their dark, industrial tastes throughout four malevolent tracks, featuring two productions from Ahkur, one killer collaboration and today’s premiere, Tetrad‘s solo effort, ‘Outpost 31‘.

Moral Terror EP [INSTi025]

After the brilliant 'Sama' EP from Oxossi earlier in the year, whoever were to feature next on Subaltern Records certainly had some big shoes to fill. Luckily for us, Subaltern has built up quite the reputation over the last couple of years as a label with a great ear for fresh bass music and talent. So with that said, Subaltern enlists one of the most underrated producers currently around for SUBALT025, Imajika. Imajika, who rightly featured on my 'Producers To Watch' list earlier this year, constructs five powerful, sound system worthy tracks that demonstrates his dance floor moving capabilities. With three tracks pressed to vinyl, those inclined to download digitally will also be blessed with two other fresh and unmissable cuts. However today I have the pleasure of premiering my favourite from the record, a B-side banger, 'Unti Pundi'.

EA Review: Retina - Dusted EP [FAV016]

Side B of FAV016 decides to dive further into the realm of deep dubstep with, “No Fear I”. Those who have had the privilege of hearing this song before its release are sure to recognize the sample in “No Fear I” quite fondly before being submerged in vibrations akin to radio feedback and static. These noises then transform into menacing drones that are propelled by hard hitting 808s that act as the backbone to this eerie heater. Similarly to “Dusted”, “No Fear I” feels like an appropriate soundtrack to the depths of the oceans with its use of tonal percussion and glitchy elements like one might expect to hear while on board a submarine. Despite its relatively simple song structure, the gradual distortion of the 808s, along with the creative use of rhythm, culminates into a song that is guaranteed to rattle any and all dust off of whatever system it is being played on.
