Radiophrenia is a temporary art radio station – an exploration into current trends in sound and transmission arts. Broadcasting live from Glasgow’s Centre for Contemporary Arts, the station aims to promote radio as an art form, encouraging challenging and radical new approaches to the medium. The broadcast schedule will include live shows, pre-recorded features and a series of ‘live-to-air’performances. The majority of the programme will be made up from selections submitted to an international open call for sound and radio works.

Vernon & Burns are a duo of sound makers who create radio plays, records and performances through an innovative mix of samples, field recordings, voice and music. In addition to record releases on Gagarin Records, Staalplaat, a cassette on Akashic and two LPs with Lied Music they have produced radio plays and features for stations including VPRO, Resonance FM and WFMU.

These podcasts are made entirely from cassette tapes scrounged from thrift stores, yard sales, basements, boxes on the side of the road, and other ungodly sources. Typically these tapes are new age synthesizer music, nature sounds, Bible stories, guided meditations, children's stories; that sort of thing. The tapes are then mixed to create a psychedelic sonic adventure usually lasting right around 15 minutes. No effects are used on the tapes besides manipulating the tape itself (slowing down, speeding up and playing backwards) and EQ. I will be bringing you a new one every week and they're all a bit different from each other.

Mark Vernon is a Glasgow based sound artist who works with found tapes and acousmatic presence. His work explores themes of magnetic memory, audio archaeology, voyeurism and nostalgia. 

His solo music projects have been published through labels including Kye, Glistening Examples, Flaming Pines, Misanthropic Agenda, Gagarin, Sonoris, Granny, Psychetropes, Persistence of Sound, Flag Day, Entr’acte, Discrepant, Futura Resistenza, Vice de Forme, Calling Cards and Canti Magnetici. 

He co-runs and curates Glasgow art radio station, Radiophrenia and has produced programmes for stations internationally.
