Hyeokjae Kim was born in 1998 in Jeju Island (Jeju-do), South Korea. When he was a teenager, he began music by making hip-hop beats and playing guitar in several rock bands. Then, at the age of 16, after he was first exposed to the music of Stravinsky and Ligeti and taught himself composition. Currently he is studying composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with Prof. Klaus Lang.
  His music has been performed by numerous performers including Ensemble Intercontemporain, Klangforum Wien, Schallfeld Ensemble, Divertimento Ensemble, Ensemble Court-Circuit, Ensemble Nostri Temporis, S201, Ensemble blank etc., at numerous festivals and workshops including Lucerne Festival (Switzerland) IRCAM ManiFeste (France), Festival de Royaumont (France), IDEA Workshop for Young Composers (Italy), Como Contemporary Festival (Italy), OutHear New Music Week (Greece), Contrasts Contemporary Music Festival (Ukraine), MicroFest Prag (Czech), Daegu International Contemporary Music Festival (South Korea) etc.
He also has won the 3rd prize at the Eduardas Balsys International Composition Competition (Lithuania). And he was selected as a finalist at EarPlay International Composition Competition (USA), Ensemble NeuverBand Basel International Construct-Radiatie Composition Competition (Switzerland), and Appassionate Ensemble International Composition Compeititon (Italy).
  His music is published by Universal Edition.
  He doubts the ideology of novelty in contemporary music, and does not pursue new sounds or new aesthetics. He just concentrates on writing the notes he needs to write every moment.

  김혁재는 1998년 대한민국 제주에서 태어났다. 10대 시절 그는 힙합비트를 만들고 여러 록밴드에서 기타를 연주하며 음악에 입문하였다. 그 후 그는 16세에 Stravinsky와 Ligeti의 음악을 처음 접하고 작곡을 독학하였고, 2018년부터 그라츠 국립 음악 대학교에서 Klaus Lang을 사사하고 있다.
  그의 음악은 Ensemble Intercontemporain, Klangforum Wien, Schallfeld Ensemble, Divertimento Ensemble, Ensemble Court-Circuit, Ensemble Nostri Temporis, S201, Ensemble blank 등 유수의 연주자들에 의해 루체른 페스티벌 (스위스) IRCAM ManiFeste (프랑스),  Festival de Royaumont (프랑스), IDEA Workshop for Young Composers (이탈리아), Como Contemporary Festival (이탈리아), OutHear New Music Week (그리스), Contrasts Contemporary Music Festival (우크라이나), MicroFest Prag (체코), 대구 국제 현대음악제 등 다수의 음악제에서 연주되었다.
  또한 그는 Eduardas Balsys International Composition Competition (Lithuania)에서 3위를 수상하였고, EarPlay International Composition Competition (USA), Ensemble NeuverBand Basel International Construct-Radiatie Composition Competition (Switzerland), Appassionate Ensemble International Composition Compeititon (Italy)에서 파이널리스트로 선정되었다.
  그의 작품들은 Universal Edition에서 출판되고 있다.
  그는 현대음악의 새로움의 이데올로기를 의심하며, 새로운 음향, 새로운 미학 등을 추구하지 않는다. 그는 그저 매번 써야하는 음을 쓰는 것에만 집중할 뿐이다.
