AWITW’s new album Navigation Room is out now on Petite Victory Collective.

Originally conceived as a hardcore techno record inspired by the music of Metroid Fusion on the Game Boy Advance, the project quickly evolved into something more expansive.

While a few samples from the game remain (you can hear them in tracks 2, 3, and 5), the turning point came with the discovery of the “navigation room” theme - a space where destinations are chosen and journeys begin. That concept became the heart of the album: six tracks, six destinations.

Navigation Room invites listeners on a journey through six unique dimensions, channeling AWITW’s passion for techno and the rave culture of the late 20th century.

Shimmering bells turn slowly in the firmament, their tones panning left and right like twin orbits of sound. Distant church bells toll as an electric guitar opens the path to a quieter realm, where smooth woodwinds and soft string textures linger in serene skies.

A violin motif plays above it all and descends in near-chromatic motion, its path echoed by faint afterglow textures before the guitar and saxophone engage in gentle dialogue.

Three solitary metallic notes usher the passage to light: a bright, bell-like riff answered by two choirs singing slightly out of phase, their descent giving way to a sustained duet by a waving choir in blue textures. Above them, a female voice drifts in quiet harmony, while the violin returns to trace its final motif — seeking, at last, its true azimuth among the stars.

DJ Rascal ... A Living Legend ♔

DJ Rascal was one of the most emblematic DJ's of his generation and one of the most successful technically in France during the closing decades of the 20th Century. In 1988 he became Luxembourg Champion and Vice European champion next year in 1989, and then participated in the DMC technical Championship French final for the world championships no fewer than 10 times between 1988 and 2000.
He was also a pioneer in many areas of DJing. He invented the concept of "boys band turntablism" - team
scratching concept - in 1990 with a first show at the Hourtin military base (France) a full year before the first appearance of Q-Bert in a U.S. TV show in 1991. Though Q-bert is remembered as the inventor of that style, he is not and it is time to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's.

DJ Rascal was also one of the first to self-produce an After Hip-Hop & New Jack mixtape on Cd in 1997-98. Up until then K7 had been the dominant format employed. The production of a 24 minute mix After
Hip-Hop composed solely of breakbeats, intros, interludes and scratching helped to bring a unique
atmosphere to the scene at that time.

But above all, his greatest strength is his ability to adapt to any type of music programming as well as
animation shows. His 45 years of experience spinning in clubs, with and without micro-animation, combined with his sharp festive programming, and impeccable technique, make of him a complete DJ able to play any style – House, Techno, Lounge, Chillout, Acid Jazz, Soul, Funk, Disco, Rap / Hip-Hop, R'n'B, French or international variety, etc.

It would take too much space here to review the career of DJ Rascal in full, but if we were to summarize a few highlights, then we would certainly keep in mind the hundreds of scratch demonstration shows, concerts, entertainment & nightlife clubs in France, Belgium, Luxembourg , Spain, Switzerland, etc. There were also countless radio and TV shows, not to mention that he was one of the pioneers of Hip-Hop and DJing in the late 80's along with DJs such as DJ Dee-Nasty. He helped democratize Hip-Hop and the art of DJing in France with MC’s including Destroy Man and Johnny Go, Lionel D, as well as others too numerous to name.
He is considered as one of the most respected DJ's of his time.

Still, his story is not finished ...
DJ Rascal plays on, and will continue to do so as we dream into the future.
