For this week's @DarkScienceElectro we take a listen to AC Records release of a track by @Biodreadempire - Finnish producer Biodread has been making music since the late 90s, trying out all kinds of genres, including Electro. Then in 2012, he started focusing more on Electro with the Biodread project. He released only a small handful of EPs on @x0xrecord, the aforementioned AC Records, and self-released a full-length himself.

Frank Vigroux’s latest release »Magnetoscope« refers to the eighties, a “terrifying time” as he calls it. A time that influenced him and us; »Blade Runner« dystopia, Polaroid colors and VHS video recorder aesthetics (in French »Magnétoscope«) form the conceptual foundation of the sound aesthetics used here.
The compositions, between progressive pop (»VHS«), Vangelis romanticism (»L.A.«) and dark, abstract layers of sound (»Stream«), are worked out in detail, driving forward, and can also be harmonically complex. Nevertheless, as usual from Vigroux, they somehow always remain timeless and classic. New on »Magnetoscope« is a kind of melodic euphoria paired with machine-funk elements, like on »Cassette«.
»Magnetoscope« is part of a series of releases (including Vigroux’s predecessor »Ballades sur lac gelé« from 2020) that interrelate strict and cool analog sounds, drum machines and noise landscapes in an epic, almost cinematic way. Let’s leave it open whether this artistic attitude is also a child of the 80s.

Restive Plaggona is a Greek project, which grows more and more intriguing with every release. This new album by Dimitris Doukas, a producer from Corfu, has a bright cinematic character and would perfectly suit a cyberpunk dystopia. The plot is populated by sharp-toothed post-industrial creatures with a technoid bite (do you remember that dream you had last night?). However, narrative is not limited to playing cat and mouse with monsters. Rather, a supposed protagonist enters into rather whimsical relationships with them. The album's name, according to the author, is "political in nature and refers to our obligation to reject any relationship with power and order". In this case the disturbing tunes of 'Orders Rejected' can be treated as a story about dangers on the way to Edem of social self-organisation (or its unexpected implications).
