We are very excited to present the 60th episode, from re:flect co-founder Nona, featuring an hour of seriously fierce and spicy, fully dance-floor primed grooves that’ll be sure to get you out from your seat! 

“Music has always fascinated me. Since almost always I've dealt intensively with music across many genres. Whether it was punk, indie, synth-pop, psy-rock or rap. Electronic dance music, especially techno, captivated me in a very special way for several reasons. It creates an atmosphere over a longer period of time that can tell whole stories, no mere stringing of songs with pauses in between – one thing I love about DJing. Plus, of course, come together and dance - a great passion of mine - in beautiful as well as thrilling spaces that I've experienced in countless club nights in Berlin and elsewhere.

Even if only slightly, my musical focus as a DJ is always in further development. For this mix I tried to keep a certain groove, which is accompanied by hard kicks or galloping basslines, precise hats and partly mystical partly almost crazy sound elements. The main element remains the high tempo - as usual.  

In addition to my solo project as Nona, I'm also part of re:flect, a multidiscilinary music and art collective based in Berlin.

Besides dancing, partying and DJing, techno alaways has had an elementary political component for me, since ithas its roots in political movements like almost every music genre. It offered and is still offering opportunities to create places of freedom of expression where alternative cultures and identities come together creating new spaces of experience that the world urgently needs. Never forget where techno came from and what values it stands for!”

This recording is a reflection of my artistic philosophy as a musician and DJ. I tell a story that combines depth and light-heartedness. Music is serious and important as a craft. It's a universal language all of us intuitively understand. But at the same time music should be enjoyed with an open mind, without any preconceptions or expectations. Here I combine the things I love the most about music: commanding and powerful low frequencies, abstract and emotional sound design and textured rhythms. All of that being heavily inspired by my love for the clubs, dancefloors and the wonderful communities they create.

▸BIO: 

Mark Sweeney aka @https://soundcloud.com/malhombretechno is a Glasgow born techno DJ and producer who is based in Leeds, England. Having Dj under is own name for many years in Central America ignited the passion for producing the genre and creating the MAL_HOMBRE alias.

With a host of previous releases under his belt, in 2021 Mark released a total of 40 total tracks on various labels. It was this year he aslo released his first album “Andromeda outpost” on Jeff mills’ Axis records, being the first ever UK producer to release an album on the legendary techno.

With his music continually supported at big techno events by Dave Clarke, Ben Sims, Joseph Capriati, Black lotus and Jeff mills was included in Dave Clarke’s top 10 producers for 2021.

Mark continues in 2022 with various other released lined up on Edit Select (4th time) and Illegal Alien from Mexico.

Danny Wabbit returns to the forefront with Manic, a carefully crafted five track EP that serves as a visceral journey through the psychological spectrum of the dancefloor.

The EP opens with the unexpected: 'Fear Is Nothing But A Tool', a cinematic dubstep intro to set a dark, preparatory tone. It then ignites with the title track 'Manic', a hypnotic and powerful techno cut built to induce peak-time frenzy.

Stripping techno back to its raw essence, 'Severed' delivers a minimalist homage to the genre's warehouse roots. This raw intensity then gives way to the meditative groove of 'Breath Work', a track centered on calming, pulsating rhythms. The EP closes with the soulful and uplifting vibes of 'That One House Track', the perfect euphoric finale to a long night.
