Felix Fleer had an in depth conversation with Midgar founder Jacopo about the origin, current state and future direction of the label, aswell as his process of creating the unique visual style of the label with his own illustrations. Besides from that Jacopo brought some tracks to feed your hungry ears with cutting edge music after the interview.

The Botanist is a Brussels-based DJ and biologist. This youngster started deejaying at the age of 16, playing at local parties with a friend dragging him into the scene. They started off as house DJ’s, but as they kept on searching for new music, they hit the jackpot: Techno. Sometime later, they started a local techno concept called Bunker, and invited DJ’s as A. Brehme, Cellini, Farrago, Kiani & His Legio, Tom Hades and Ortin Cam. Their last party was in Leuven with Lars Huismann straight from Berlin. 

However, after a few years their visions diverged, so each of them went his own way, starting his own project The Botanist. At that moment, he discovered vinyl and fell instantly in love. Eager for more black gold, he kept digging while his collection, as his vision on Techno, grew. He played at some local raves in Maastricht (NL) (w/ 2+2=5), Trauma in Leuven (w/ SPFDJ & DJ Ibon), De Serre in Hasselt, Radio Scorpio (Club106) and reached the finals of 45Toeren DJ Contest. As of lately, he hosts free Techno parties in 't Gewelf in Leuven named Phobia.

Inspired by the diversity Techno has to offer, he seeks to combine all sorts of vibes in a fluent and dynamic way. A touch of by-nature-influenced soundscapes, hoovering melodies over a galloping bassline, pounding broken drum rolls,… These are the elements he operates attempting to present a story.
