Jeff Mills Essential Mix 1998-06-07

Pfirter is one of Argentina's finest techno exports. Pushing a sound that is at once dark and uplifting, old school and fresh, he's gradually evolved into a club music all-rounder, deejaying, producing and running one of techno's brightest imprints, MindTrip. He's put out massive records on the likes of CLR, Figure and Stroboscopic Artefacts, and performed everywhere from Berghain and Trésor to Awakenings, I Love Techno and Time Warp.

It was in his hometown of Buenos Aires that Juan Pablo Pfirter first made a name for himself, starting out on radio as a fresh-faced fifteen-year-old youth. In 2000, after stints behind the decks at various clubs in the capital, he left radio to focus on deejaying. Soon after, he turned his hand to production, and by 2005 he was embarking on his first European tour. What he'd experience there would change his outlook forever. Twelve months later, in 2006, he set up the first version of MindTrip Music.

This eventually led Pfirter, following the likes of Barem and Jonas Kopp, across the Atlantic to Europe in 2012. That same year, he rebranded the label MindTrip Rec. The move has worked wonders, and he's since released music from Oscar Mulero, Lucy, Chris Liebing, Tripeo and Markus Suckut, as well as six EPs of his own original material.

2015 will see further development of the label, with a select group of releases scheduled as well as the recently launched MindTrip Podcast, which is a monthly offering of exclusively curated music from artists that best represent the sound and vision of the label. It is anyone's guess as to just how far Pfirter can continue to challenge and push himself and the wider techno scene.

In techno circles, Cassegrain shouldn't need too much of an introduction. With a label résumé that includes, among others, Prologue, Infrastructure New York, Killekill, and Ostgut Ton—as well as highly regarded performances at Berghain, Village Underground, and Output—they've more than stamped their name on the scene. Alex Tsiridis and Hüseyin Evirgen—the two artists behind Cassegrain—formed the project after a chance meeting at the Redbull Music Academy in Barcelona. In the years following, they collaborated remotely via email, sending stems back and forth before making a move to Berlin where they currently share a studio.

Scøpe, a Korean techno producer/DJ and administrator of SCOPAVIK Podcast, is now . Composition methods encompassing atonal music, experimental music, spectral music, minimal music and etc. that he had learned when he majored in contemporary music composition, and rhythmical elements of Jazz and Black music that he has had deep interest in since his childhood altogether largely influenced the music that he pursues now, and he is now on his way of establishing his own world of music with many remix tracks and EP releases.

His dynamic DJ sets almost push the listeners into trance by eliciting their subconscious movements with new grooves which rhythmical structures in each track organically intertwine with each other and incrementally accumulate into, and then all of a sudden lead them to a lyrical tone, thus presenting listeners with the type of joy that only techno music can deliver by creating an intersection between reason and instinct.

Den Kurs auf dem MDF geben alte Bekannte und gute Freunde vor, denn sie wissen am Besten wie der Hase läuft. Besonders freuen wir uns, Inigo Kennedy mal wieder da zu haben und uns nicht nur musikalisch, sondern auch menschlich in seinen Bann ziehen zu lassen. Würde die Queen ihn persönlich kennen, würde sie ihn sofort zum 'Sir' schlagen. Blazej Malinowski ist ein Name den man sich merken sollte wenn man ihn noch nicht kennt, gerade sorgt er mit seinen melodischen treibenden live sets für viel Furore. Jay Quentin und Silva Rymd bilden geschmackssicher den idealen Rahmen.

In Sachen Geschmackssicherheit werden die Fachkräfte auf der Lobby ihnen dabei in nichts nachstehen. Derek Plaslaiko, der erste und letzte DJ mit einem 12h-Boiler-Room-Set, kennt den elektronischen Underground zwischen Berlin und New York wie kein anderer und weiß wie man die richtigen vibes legt. Die kanadische Newcomerin LNS machte mit Veröffentlichungen auf DJ Sotofett’s Wania Label und Jayda G’s Freakout Cult letztes Jahr von sich reden, auf sie sind wir schon sehr gespannt. Ebenfalls hochgefeiert wird Resident Jessamine’s eindrucksvolles erstes Release „More Love Later“ auf ://about blank 003.

In der Nacht wird Eli Pavel mit ihrem Balearic/Disco/Pop-Sound das Zelt zum Club Tropicana verwandeln, bevor Kvrt - frisch von eben jenem - die Holzbohlen und Apfelpos zum wackeln bringt.

The next Blank Generation is happening on Easter Saturday. Old friends are leading the way on our MDF floor, and they know best. We are more than excited, that Inigo Kennedy will be back again and not only musically, but also humanly cast a spell. Make sure to memorize Blazej Malinowski's name, he is making splashes with his melodic, energetic live sets. Jay Quentin and Silva Rymd will complete this tasteful arrangement.

Other experts in tastefulness will be playing in the Lobby. Derek Plaslaiko, the first and last DJ with a 12h-Boiler-Room-set, knows electronic underground music between Berlin and New York best and how to put the right vibes. The Canadian newcomer LNS has turned lots of heads with releases on DJ Sotofett's label Wania and Jayda G's Freakout Cult. Also highly praised: our resident Jessamine's first release "More Love Later" on ://about blank 003.

At night, Eli Pavel will turn the tent to Club Tropicana with her Balearic/Disco/Pop-sound, before Kvrt - fresh of the same - will make the floor shake.

Italian Techno DJ and producer, Dorian Gray deals with electronic music far beyond its partying aspect. Fascinated by astronomy, symbolism and ancient cultures, Dorian’s creations offer to the listener an introspective journey driven by meticulous ambient pads, hypnotizing rhythms and smart acidic loops. Dorian’s work appeared on international active imprints such as Edit Select Records, The Gods Planet, Illegal Alien and Northallsen to name a few. Production work aside, Dorian firmly states that his first love is DJing where he continues to push forward, spreading his word in several gigs across the World.

André Walter, the man behind the STIGMATA project, started his career as a producer in the 1980’s. Influenced by bands like Skinny Puppy, Cabaret Voltaire, Nitzer Ebb and the artist Isao Tomita, André started to experimentalize with his first audio tools (Atari 1040ST) and tracks. From that time on he evolved to a frequently requested producer, supporting various musicians, dj’s and artists. André’s first releases were published on Sven Väth’s labels Harthouse (as Holocube) & Eye-Q (as Aquaform) and other famous labels of that time like Kick Down, Fucking Loud and Universal Prime Breaks. 

In 1994, André ran into Chris Liebing at the popular record store Downtown Records in Giessen / Germany, where a lot of renowned DJ’s were buying their vinyls. From that  time till 2005, almost every Chris Liebing release was influenced and co-produced by André Walter. 

To create a platform for their own tracks and productions, André Walter, Tommy Bingel, Toni Rios and Chris Liebing launched their own label SOAP Records soon. André’s projects were named Noosa Heads (in cooperation with Chris Liebing) and E.H.R. (featuring 
Chris Liebing and Toni Rios). Besides the well working cooperation with Chris Liebing, André also did studio sessions with artists like Monika Kruse, Thomas Krome, Umek, Marshall Jefferson, Gayle San or Frank Lorber. 

In 1998, André and Chris began to intensify their studio partnership and focused on Chris’ productions. Within a short period of time the newly started labels AUDIO, CLR and CLAU developed to "most-wanted“ brands and global players like Primate, Intec or Ground were hiring the duo to produce songs and remixes. André’s taste of the deep and gloomy and his passion for horrormovies had a deep impact on the AUDIO follow-up project STIGMATA, which has played a major role in the development of modern techno and gained worldwide recognition. With STIGMATA, André is able to show his almost endless pool of creativity, as well as his passion for myth and cabalistic writing. 

The prolific cooperation with Chris Liebing resulted in winning the “Best Producer Award” at the German Dance Awards 2001. Countless successful productions like Chris Liebing’s concept longplayer EVOLUTION and a proper number of STIGMATA records followed and received worldwide recognition, as well as their remixes for John Starlight’s “Blood Angels”, Tiga’s “Sunglasses at Night”, Sven Väth’s "Breakthrough" or “Seven Nation Army" by the White Stripes, to name only a few. 

André always breaks new ground and puts innovation into practice. So he did in 2005: With his release “Dark Listening”, which is a more quiet one, André created a dark and mystical journey of spherical sounds and effects, comparable to the famous literary work “Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque” by Edgar Allen Poe.

Since the succesful launch of the STIGMATA project, fans and colleagues constantly asked him why he never brought his sound to the stages of clubs and festivals by playing on his own. And in 2007, after a well preparation, he finally did it! He liked the new experience and from then on, he’s playing gigs in Germany and all over Europa regularly, always bringing the typical STIGMATA sound directly to the floors. 

Ten years and numerous releases later, it’s time for the next milestone in André’s career: 
He finished STIGMATA - Paraspectral, the first concept longplayer for his STIGMATA project. With this album, he’s showing his pretty wide range of Electronic Music on the brand new German label Modular Source.
It is a symbiosis of Modern and Old School Techno from different decades. You will find EBM-influenced sound from the 80’s, 90’s-rooted Rave & Acid, old school STIGMATA tracks and of course, proper Techno of nowadays on this spectacular album.

All tracks have one thing in common with his shows: 
Uncompromising TECHNO, made to kick some ass on the dancefloor!

Su potente personalidad y marcado carisma -como DJ y productor- se sustenta sobre una madurez estilística, una serenidad profesional y un fundamentado criterio artístico -siempre en constante e inquieta progresión- a través de los cuales se identifica todo lo que pincha y produce. Su sonido es industrial, analógico y maquinal. Se debate la distopía y el club. Detroit, Berlín y Birmingham. Parte del mismísimo tuétano del techno. Es físico, contundente, modular y emocionante.

Su sello Newrhythmic lleva más de 15 años apoyando techno de alto octanaje de artistas oriundos y foráneos. A su vez, sus temas han sido publicados por labels de la talla de Fabric, Odd Even,Symbolism , Planet Rhythm, Raw Raw, Format , Dynamic Reflection, More Than Less … y han sido charteados y pinchados por artistas de la mayúscula talla de Ben Klock, Dvs1, Rodhad , Dave Clarke, Ben Sims , Oscar Mulero , Adam Beyer, Surgeon ,Truncate o Go Hiyama. Como DJ ha sabido evolucionar desde su amado y tradicional vinilo hasta el actual formato digital; gracias a ello Jotón enriquece sus sesiones aportándoles un empuje añadido a su innata capacidad de conexión con la pista de baile.

En 2015 se produjo un hito en su carrera con la publicación de su primer álbum -'Casting Out Nines'- que cosechó excelentes críticas por parte de publico y prensa especializada. Fue considerado como uno de los mejores trabajos -en largo formato de dicho año- y ello lo colocó en el punto de mira de toda la escena techno global. Lo presentó en 10 países de 3 continentes diferentes.

En este 2017 vio la luz su segundo gran proyecto, 'R3silient' presentando su lado más puro y analógico; regresando -una vez más- a lo primigenio, a lo seminal, a las raíces del techno. En 2018 saca dos nuevos trabajo , Antioquia en el sello Aleman ODD EVEN y Extreme Mesures en RAW RAW , captando de nuevo la antención de la industria.

El calendario de Joton se ha llenado de actuaciones en los lugares más famosos del mundo, como Under club en Buenos Aires, Tresor en Berlín, Le Batofar en París, Corsica Studios en Londres, Grelle Forelle en Viena, Propaganda en Moscú, Domunne en Tokio , Vurt en Seúl, Razzmatazz y Moog en Barcelona, Stardust y Fabrik en Madrid, entre otros.

2XNI is an female dj, producer and live act duo.
Nicole & Anna will draw on an influence  which goes back to the underground 90s Rave and Alternative parties in Germany. These moments gave them the desire to search and find the 2XNI sound and music development.

VSK, who has recently joined HEX Recordings with a brutal remix, has released tracks from Michal on his very own imprint: CRS Ltd. Other labels like Newrhytmic Recs. have made him gain a fixed spot among the list of rising European talents, with a busy schedule in the coming weeks, travelling all over Europe and soon making his Asia debut.

For this episode we invited Setaoc Mass. As a DJ and producer, he is part of a select cut of young artists who are absorbing techno’s legacy and carrying the torch into tomorrow. Whilst overseeing his own imprint SK_eleven, his releases push a galvanising brand of techno, steeped in a sense of urgency, ever-propulsive with acute detailing and nods to a futuristic space-age. In addition to a debut release on Len Faki’s Figure which has caught the eye of some of the scene’s most respected DJ’s. As a selector, the Mancunian’s extended DJ sets pull from an expansive spectrum of material both new and old.

He has already built a very solid career with a series of records released on many great labels such as ARTS, Pole Group, Dynamic Reflection as well as his first label that is also called Unbalance. Holding residencies and regular gigs throughout his hometown and also into Europe in clubs like Tresor and Berghain, he quickly gained a reputation as a skillful and excellent DJ with flawless sets moving from classic techno sounds to a more futuristic wave. Aleksandr is also ready to launch his new label project this June, a platform where he will release music of his as well as other artists, newcomers, and veterans. MindTrip Podcast 033 - Unbalance

Sometimes the darkest feelings provide, in a painful paradox, the biggest of pleasures. 

The DJ and producer Insolate demonstrates the truth of this analysis by producing rough & dark techno infused with emotion inspired by her 20 years as a DJ.

Hailing from Osijek, Croatia, on the wide Croatian East – a town that at first glance a heavy industrial atmosphere overshadows - this is where she made first steps as a DJ back in 1997 before taking over European and worldwide clubs. 

She's already played some of the world’s most renowned clubs including Berghain, Rex, Tresor, Under Club, Club d’Anvers, Unter, Exit Festival, Tomorrowland, ADE and Dimensions Festival plus numerous Colombian tours over the years and USA tour and Argentina added to the list in 2018. 

As a producer, she's had a string of releases on highly respected labels including DJ Deep's Deeply Rooted, Marcelus’s Singular and Developer’s Modularz - supported and played by some of techno's finest including Laurent Garnier, DVS1, Dax J and Ilario Alicante. This year, she also released the stellar Obscure Object Of Desire EP on JoeFarr's new User Experience imprint, two original tracks that stroke the perfect balance between groove, power and emotion. She also contributed to Ben Sim’s compilation Tribology among giants as Planetary Assault Systems, Oscar Mulero, Steffi etc.  and also made super interesting collaboration with french producer Arnaud le Texier and released EP with him for Prodigal Son.

Insolate is also a major contributor to the Croatian techno scene, so much so that she was in Ibiza to receive the award for "Dance Nation of the Year" at the DJ Awards on behalf of her nation. Her and long-time partner in crime Volster also run the event series TRAUM in her native Osijek. Not traditionally a city with a strong techno scene, the TRAUM events have cemented their place in the clubbing calendar with quality artists like Paula Temple, Antigone, Cassegrain, Janice, Etapp Kyle and Milton Bradley. 

The success of the TRAUM nights caught the attention of Red Bull Music Academy and Dimensions – both of which they have hosted official events for. Insolate being an international messenger of techno was recognised by Ambassador award that gave her a title "Croatia’s ambassador overseas" for 2017.

The final part of putting Osijek on the techno map was taken in 2015 with the launch of the label Out Of Place which Insolate runs with Volster. The label was named in honour of the beautiful struggle of carving your own way into the scene from a place that's well off the grid from the traditional capitals of techno. Now three releases strong, the label has already had contributions from heavyweights like Milton Bradley and Developer. Label is currently on the 4th edition with a new release coming out in summer 2018 including artists Francois X, JoeFarr and Disrupted Project.

As a DJ, Insolate is well known for her no-compromise, pure-bred techno sets. It's clear to anyone who's seen her perform that she's an artist with a lot of experience but also plenty of inspiration and ambition, and a deep knowledge of techno. She is simply a natural presence in a DJ booth. If you've seen her play, you will know exactly what this means.

Colombian (Brooklyn based) multi instrumentalist Ela Minus is a humble rebellion to the overly produced-laptop driven electronic music scene. Ela is a one-woman all hardware electronic orchestra. Following a strong desire to maintain the essence of improvisation both in recorded as well as on live music, she does not use any laptops in absolutely any stage of her production or live performances. She does everything herself and performs live using only hardware machines and her voice.

Originally a drummer Ela has had a long career as a multi instrumentalist for countless projects. Born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. She moved to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music where she graduated with a dual major and moved to Brooklyn, NY. Where she worked at the synthesizer company Critter & Guitari alongside her career as a touring drummer, as well as her solo career.
