It’s getting hot in here, thanks to Franklyn Watts joining the Clarisse ranks and bringing with him some of his hometown LA sunshine while easily meeting the Swiss label’s manifesto. The producer previously responsible for the art of Noise Frenzy, has made his mark on the Dirtybird, CUFF and Repopulate Mars imprints, and boosted his escalating number of plaudits further with a tour spot alongside house star Chris Lake.

‘Up In Thurr’ works with chopped rap samples letting everyone know who’s in town, low end rumbles bossing the booth, and the kind of collar-popping coolness from behind a pair of sunglasses that gets people flocking. Soon the beats will be sticking to your skin as percussion varies from hi-hats getting thrown all around, to a horn murmur keeping pulses elevated. Mendo can’t resist getting in on the action and provides just as bumpy a ride, the Clarisse cheque writer sharpening up and dipping a murky bassline in acid so it emerges from cut-up rhythms ricocheting from one side of the club to the other.

Round two cashes in all the way ‘2 Da Bank’, Watts joined by LOSIF3R as both fix their pose and make it rain with a second deep and funky strut taking everything in its stride. A hectic, computerised rhythm gets styled out, sliding in and out of the mix and adding a jerk to the smooth sailing, and unannounced alarms, upon waking slouches from their siesta, announce Franklyn’s hitting of the jackpot. Ladies and gentlemen, that’s Watts up.
