This week’s raucous mix comes from the bass loving maestro, Low Steppa. Get ready for a pumping mix full of hefty basslines and infectious melodies from the midlands-based producer. We’re sure it’ll fill your day or night with positive energy, which is a surefire reason to download it right away and give yourself a full body workout.

Low Steppa hails from Birmingham and has been involved with electronic since the early 2000s, releasing music under various guises – always with an emphasis on bass, which we love here at Deep House London. He’s traveled the globe with his sound, hitting hotspots like Womb in Tokyo and the huge EDC in Los Angeles.

As well as playing and making top notch bass-heavy house, he also runs his own label Simma Black and its associated parties. Low Steppe has been behind a wealth of production projects over the years with solo work and collaborative projects under aliases such as Twocker, Rudi Stakker, Bass Weazal, Dreadstemz, Punk Rolla and his real name, Will Bailey.

Unsurprisingly his productions have picked up support from some of the industry’s biggest names including Fake Blood, Martin Ikin, Grant Nelson, Shadow Child and Kry Wolf. On top of which, recent radio support has come from the likes of Toddla T, Zane Lowe, Kissy Sellout and the Wideboys.

So it’s a pleasure to have him on board for the Deep House London mix series. We hope you enjoy it as much as us!

SKisM & DC Breaks - Killer ft Dee Freer (CRUSH Remix)

The first two singles taken from Calyx & TeeBee’s forthcoming album ‘All Or Nothing’ have been heavily supported by tastemakers across the board. Lining up to drop them are Radio 1 DJs Zane Lowe and Annie Mac,  UK #1 artists DJ Fresh and Rudimental, Example’s touring partner DJ Wire and scene stalwarts TC and Matrix & Futurebound, to name but a few. And now the duo is ready to unleash the third single from ‘All Or Nothing’, an incredible slice of D&B funk featuring the vocal talents of Kemo.


Marrying influences from hip hop, funk and mid-‘90s drum & bass, Calyx & TeeBee offer up a distinctly different track that tugs on feelings of nostalgia while pushing the envelope forward. ‘Pure Gold’ is effortlessly fresh, oozing with bouncing hip hop, double bass funk and D&B energy this track will undoubtedly sound great from the car to the club, across radio waves and dance floors alike.

Wilkinson steps up for the first remix of the package, keeping the orchestral provenance suggested by the intro of the original and rolling it out into a booming, winding bass monster. This is drumstep at its finest, resisting the urge to throw in a million random bleeps, Wilkinson instead infuses ‘Pure Gold’ with his own unique style and creates an absolute killer of a remix in the process.

Next up Hostage takes ‘Pure Gold’ into serious bouncing house territory. As the punchy drums are punctuated by that infamous horn sample you’re pulled slowly and gently in. Before long Hostage places precision cuts of Kemo’s vocal and the infectious bass loop into the mix along with some carnival snares that ensure this is one of the most infectious 4/4 tracks you’re likely to hear all year.

Rounding the digital package off Calyx & TeeBee offer up their own track ‘Perspectives’, a sure-fire slice of D&B that’s sure to keep the heads happy. Relentless bass and expertly chosen sound FX all combine with rolling percussion and stunning production to create a perfect dance floor roller.

Welcome to a journey into D&B’s deepest, darkest, dirtiest underbelly…
Your drivers on this mission are veteran producers Gridlok and Prolix. With pristine reputations and spotless discographies that span back to the turn of the century, the respective US/UK artists need little introduction… Both as solo artists or as a collaborative duo.
Their trip commences with ‘Membrane’, a turbo-charged rocket ride into drum & bass’s most alien landscapes. Hold on tight as we negotiate the tight, gnarly bends where an itchy scratchy lead scuffs the spectrum with infectious, growling glee. Simple yet devilishly complex, ‘Membrane’ worms its way into the mind like an audio virus, refusing to budge until dancefloor insanity ensues.

Next stop: ‘Babylon’. As the name suggests, it’s rich in sonic heritage. Bolstered with the very belly-bothering, visceral distorted bass that got many of us hooked on D&B in the first place, the main scenery on this part of the journey are the unforgiving low-end peaks that spike with Everest-level confidence. Climb their summits and you’ll spot the badland pastures of neurofunk lurking beneath. The most uncompromising stage of this two part trip… Now you’ve heard it, there’s no turning back.
