I first met Alex at the magical Mareh Music new year festival in Boipeba and we've had the pleasure of partying / playing together a few times in Bahia, SP, Rio, NYC and LA through the years.  I was delighted when he asked me to remix something from the brilliant band / collaboration he's doing with super talented Vadinho Freire and Le Chev!  I enlisted some help from the wonderful Nathan Haines on flute who i met last year at the idyllic Flamingo Pier festival on Waiheke island! 🇧🇷🇺🇸🇬🇧🇳🇿  🌴☀️🔈

The Moton Records Inc series launched back in 1996, and – alongside edit imprints from the Idjut Boys, Harvey, and others – this label has been instrumental in shaping the leftfield Disco & Balearic re-edit scene. 

With a DJ career going back over 25 years, Marc Roberts’ sound reflects a wide range of influences and his love for all things house, techno, jazz, disco, and afro. Whether it's warming up for some of the biggest names in electronic music, or headlining shows himself, he's earned himself a reputation as a solid selector playing events globally. 
Marc Roberts curates award winning line ups for festivals and clubs worldwide, including a decade with alpine behemoth Snowbombing. Having relocated to South East Asia in 2016, he set up the Pantai People imprint during the pandemic which has released a number of very well received 12”s.

This month Moton Records enlists the expertise of Bali’s best, to take listeners on a global jaunt of musical exploration. From London to Rio via New York, and road tested on the dance floors and beaches of Bali, Marc serves up four Bintang fuelled edits, effortlessly gravitating from low-slung Balearica to hi-octane funk with a dash of Brazilian disco and pop thrown in for good measure. Marc Roberts slices and splices four beautiful cuts that that fit perfectly into the highly collectable and off centre Moton Records universe.

Returning from the Italian excursion of Vol. 13 before the U.K. pulls up the proverbial drawbridge, Neil Diablo delivers another To Rack & Ruin winner live and direct from the Northern powerhouse. Showing some love for the finerhalf of the county, Neil presents the best the North East has to offer, enlisting ‘Our friends from the north’Yorkshire's Craig Bratley and Newcastle's James Hadfield to do the damage on this slick split 12".
After a relatively quiet 2016, Mr Bratley shuffles his Magic Feet into the studio and sticks his fist directly into the mainframe, coming back with a pair of strangely psychedelic body movers to decorate the A-side. 'Ani Kuni' bursts out the blocks in a swell of fizzing sequencer, throbbing bass and tonking mid tempo percussion, sparking away wildly like a Tesla toothbrush. An East-meets-West affair, the track marries the thrusting electronics of Krautrock with lightly spiced Indian vocals and hippie guitar licks, conjuring visions of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi gurning away at a Faust show. Bratley retains the propulsive percussion for A2 number 'Acid Mother', syncing gurgling synth bass beneath loose funk guitars and warbling lead lines as we're slowly sucked through the wormhole. As the track chugs ceaseless through Baldelli's cosmic terrain, rhythmic chants and rubbery bass solos reverberate through the vacuum, locking us into their other worldly gravity. Resistance is futile.
We head up the A1 for the flipside, hooking up on the toon with Elizabeth Collective mainstay James Hadfield, who serves up two reheated treats tastier than your last parmo! Wielding the white stiletto and sweet sequinned shimmer, Hadfield lets loose his disco juice on "Love And Affection", chucking some dreamy Gamble & Huff vocals over a dope and dusty groove. Crackling like a campfire cookout, this infectious cut spits out slick bass, dubbed out guitar and precise percussion, keeping your body in motion while the piano noodle and soulful vocal swirl through your brainspace. Things take a turn for the technologic on "Silent Builder", those organic disco licks replaced by swelling sine waves, soaring siren calls and military breakbeats. The punchy bassline provides a steady hand as the track gradually pulls itself apart, unravelling into squelching synth wobbles, oddball samples and proggy solos.
Wonderfully wonky, this is music for when the walls start to melt. Four freaky cuts from two top talents - To Rack & Ruin for the win.

The record kicks off with the meteoric energy of Star Beaming, a rolling interstellar disco stomper, then lays back with the low-slung Fred's Groove and jazzy balearic groove of Laid Back, finishing off with the bouncey early-80s boogie feel of Forgot. Ray Mang is Laj is Raj Gupta. One of the premier disco producers since way back when and still clocking forwards in a future fashion with no sign of letting up. He landed his first 12” Number One in ’96 on Noid Recordings gaining widespread support in the clubs and on compilations. He has taken that wonky party sound and kept it moving on ever since.  He also runs the label Mangled and has released across too many labels to mention. He is prolific with the quality control on high.

He launched his own label Mangled in ’98 with a slew of killer 12-inches. Two albums followed: ‘Mangled’ (Eskimo) and ‘Mangled Again’ on his own imprint, as well as singles on R&S, Smash Hit and Bear Funk. Recent hits include ‘Bullet Proof’ on DFA featuring Lady Miss Kier, a disco-house reimagining of a P-funk classic; and the blissed-out Balearic gem ‘Look Into My Eyes’ which instantly became a firm favourite for many.

His many talents as a musician and producer have driven a wealth of collaborations: in bands Block 16 and Motif on seminal ’90s label Nuphonic; as Laj with the Idjut Boys on U-Star, or with Quakerman on their own Fiasco imprint; and with close musical acquaintances The Glimmers, Foolish Felix, Lee Tong and Nathan D’Troit.  More recently Ray has teamed up with Bill Brewster to form Mang Dynasty.  In all his guises Ray Mang is one of the most prolific contributors to the UK disco/house canon.

As a remixer his phone never stops ringing.  He’s notched up credits for  Lassigue Bendthaus, Banda Black Rio, Gorillaz, Shirley Bassey, Grand National, Beck, Roxy Music / Bryan Ferry, Doves, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, Freddie Mercury, Bloc Party, Munk, Rob Garza, Friendly Fires, Classixx, S-Express, Daniel Grau & Los Amigos Invisibles with Dimitri From Paris to name just a few.
 
As a globe trotting DJ he plays at festivals, clubs, bars and on beaches in some of the most beautiful locations around the world.  His incendiary sets blend house, disco, boogie, cosmic, balearic, latin, afro, along with anything that takes his fancy and sneak previews of his own forthcoming monsters.  As happy playing peak time Saturday night as he is providing the soundtrack to your sunset moment in paradise.  Recent trips have taken him to Brazil, USA, Bali, Japan, Australia, Mexico, Croatia, Ibiza and all over Europe. He has also become a regular at festivals like Electric Elephant, Festival No 6, Campo Sancho and Mareh & O/NDA in Brazil.
