Addressing body autonomy, unhealthy coping mechanisms, and controlling relationships, this song explores the push and pull between two people who are absolutely wrong for each-other, and how that infects them as they grapple with their inner demons.

“Lethal Dose” is about the aftermath of a volatile codependent relationship. When a relationship like this ends, it can feel like you’re grieving the death of a loved one. Sometimes we don’t handle this break up with grace, but rather with self destructive behavior and unhealthy coping mechanisms. The main character is in a constant battle with a “demon” throughout the duration of the song. The “demon” is symbolic and represents her past struggles with alcohol, self hatred, anger issues, and pretty much all of the worst parts of her. As she’s navigating this break up, these past issues start to present themselves again in her life. She goes through a whirlwind of emotions trying to get a handle on her grief and the current situation she’s in. Each color of lighting represents a different stage of grief. Green = denial, blue = depression, and red = anger. While the 7 stages of grief can be helpful in identifying what you’re feeling, it’s important to remember, there is no “wrong” way to grieve. While greif is universal, the way we grieve is not. What may work for others, may not work for you. Be kind to yourself, nurture yourself, and ask for help. You are loved, you are important, and this world wouldn’t have the same twinkle without you.

With its feet in early 80’s Michael Jackson and its head in contemporary synth-pop, “While I’m Alive” explores the struggle of learning to love yourself when one of your only tools is an emotional crowbar. Gospel and doo-wop inspired harmonies groove on top of R&B synth-bass lines, deconstructed drum loops, drum machines, and funky guitars. With her powerful yet playful vocals, Raycheal may appear to be throwing shade at an ex, but she might just be talking about her own demons.

It starts with velvety low-pitched vocals, wrapped in layers of harmonies. Next, a retro-rave synth enters, and before you know it you’re in a swirl of 2000’s dance-pop nostalgia, and powerful vocals with the drums jumping out of the speakers. The verse lyrics address the cyclical trauma that turns the abused into abusers, and the chorus points a way forward as it explores how personal responsibility might break the cycle
