Ryan Blackman (@farfromthesun) is a London-based DJ who has been active since the mid90s, playing records at clubs such as Final Frontier, Sabresonic, and most significantly LOST. Artists ranging from Aphex Twin and Autechre to Jeff Mills, Claude Young, and Jay Denham, among others, were an inspiring influence in his early years. Later on, he went on to promote his own event across Europe, allowing him to continue with his passion: play and collect electronic music. On this occasion, he presents a well-turned mix that offers different approaches to electro, eclectic, and perfectly blent. Enjoy it!

Been best of friends for the last 30 years or more and both have a love for music, especially Electro.

Played at various clubs around West Yorkshire like Mint Club, Mission and Space Leeds as well as been support dj for Cybereign.

Been in love with Electro since school in the 80's. Dabbled with rave in the 90's & got my Decks. Went back to my first love after listening to don't stop the beat by Anthony Rother. Influenced by Mr. Velcro Fastener, Dexter and so on.

TECHcontrol Producer and general noise maker from Yorkshire.

Tracks have featured on Amper Clap's Urban Connections, and this month on the Various Artist Album Space Sheep Program by Ovelha Trax.

Which artists influenced you the most? 
 
- Countless artists, I remember myself at age 5 jumping on my bed, singing “we are the robots”, so definitely Kraftwerk. As a teenager I grew up in the early nineties, had a big crush on the Prodigy, Altern 8, and all the BreakBeat\Rave scene that came from England back then. 
I decided to start DJing after listening to some legendary DJs like Dave Clarck, Ben Sims, Jeff Mills, DJ Bone, and my dear friend Ori Lichtick. They all have different styles, and techniques, but one thing in common is that they all create new music on the fly while they mix, not just playing the tracks one after another. 
 
What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future? 
 
- Most important for me these days is to play in parties, there is nothing like people vibe in a good party. Lately been working on my DJ mix series, I try to publish a new mix every month. 
There is also Avaq, which is a very special project that consists of a drummer, and a guitarist that play in a very unique style, the music they produce is passed directly through a mixer controlled by me, and I color it with effects, and loops, all three of us got a lot of influence from the clubs/rave scene, from Techno, Electronic music, and post punk. 
Avaq music is dance flour oriented, wild, intense, with a consistent rolling beat. 
We released a new single last week

And for the next year we plan to continue performing as much as we can in Clubs/Parties, and Festivals. 
 
Which artists/labels are more relevant to you now? 
 
- In the past years I fell in love with Electro music, discovered a whole lot of awesome new producers, labels, and stellar sounds. In a nutshell, really like The Exaltics, Carl Finlow, Luxus Varta, Krypton 81, Maelstrom, Zeta Reticula, DJ Stingray, DMX Krew, of course Drexcya, and Dopplereffekt, AUX88, and many, many others. 
Labels: Cultivated Electronics, CPU, Bass Agenda, Klakson, Mechatronica, and many others. 
Also a big fan of the “Dark Science Electro” podcast, I like to listen to it while I drive at night. 
 
What inspires you to create music now? 
 
- In the past 4 years I had two incidents that shook my entire world. 
Lost my significant other (my love) after 17 years together, then got sick with Leukemia, which nearly made me meet my ancestors. 
That's when I truly discovered the healing power of music, it also keeps my sanity, so for me music is life. 
There is also the element of leaving something behind after we go, because life is fragile.

- Hard to pinpoint any one in particular. Psychick Warriors of Gaia, Spacemen 3, People Like Us, Michael Rother, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Ragga Twins, XL Middleton. The list is long...

2. What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?

- Have just released two tapes. One of new electro material on Posh End Recordings Expiration, by Wee DJs https://fear-e.bandcamp.com/album/expiration and another on Apartment Recordings of archive material from the early 90's. https://apartmentrecords.bandcamp.com/album/being-there
I write music constantly in my free time but I don't really send it to labels so it's hard to say what's next. I'll continue to release new material via bandcamp.

3. Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now?

- Fastgraph, Tapes, XL Middleton. Not sure about labels.....

4. What inspires you now to create music?

- Noises in my head. Listening to music. Suggestions from friends.

5. If it's not a secret, what set-up do you use when creating music?

- Vaz Modular to create Wee DJs music. 
For my other aliases I have a small hardware setup. Couple of Elektron machines, some fx machines, mixing desk etc. One little box I got my hands on is the Audiothingies Micromonsta which is really great. Money isn't readily available so I focus on what I really need.
