Mexican singer/percussionist/producer/DJ sensation Pahua comes to Razor-N-Tape via a huge 12” + 7” remix project featuring some of the hottest producer names in current outer-national dance music.  

Originally the singer of beloved Mexican band Sotomayor, Pahua blazed her own solo path in 2020, developing her unique electronic Latin sound through a series of EPs, culminating in the release of her standout Habita LP on Nacional Records in 2023. Garnering millions of streams, Habita established Pahua as an essential voice of modern alternative folk/pop in Latin America, and now Razor-N-Tape brings her sound to the dance floors of the world with a varied remix package that honors the essence of the original music, while flipping it in quintessential RNT club-ready fashion.

The list of remixers on this project includes both staples and new recruits to the RNT production stable. Label co-head JKriv turns in a late-nite bass mix of the exceedingly popular ‘Porque Yo,’ Tigerbalm brings her chugging international disco flair to ‘Pa’lante,’ Prince of Queens digs deep with a housey dub of ‘Calla,’ and Londoner Clive From Accounts takes ‘Caña Brava’ into moody nu-disco meets amapiano territory. The label newcomers also deliver in a huge way, with LA-based Captain Planet and Quebecois producer Poirier each revealing very different but equally banging sides of the uptempo ‘Espantapájaros,’ respectively percussive and thumping, and stripped down and hypnotic. Detroit Latin production legend John Beltran adorns the melancholic ‘Flor de Jazmin’ with a samba-inflected rhythmic foundation and a lush horn arrangement that transports you straight to Cafe del Mar, Ibiza. And Mexican producer Belmar rounds out the package with a slow rolling and deep mix of ‘Porque Yo.’

With a collection of remixes as prolific and solid as these, RNT opted for an expansive 12” + 7” package that features seven of the remixes across the two slabs of vinyl. The gorgeous cover artwork flips the moonrise eclipse motif of the original Habit album cover perfectly, with a slick device that reveals a crescent moon as the record is removed from the jacket.

Deep Inspiration Show stands for quality deep house, returning with “One More Wax” as part of their international artist series. Zarenzeit (Zürich) featuring Roger Versey (Arkansas) opens with “So Smooth,” offering rich keys, a sensual bassline, soulful loops, and dynamic vocals. Next, Melchior Sultana (Malta) delivers “Nothing Like It Seems,” featuring silky chords and a shuffling house rhythm, perfect for late-night vibes. Fresh off a trip to the watercooler, London’s Clive From Accounts is circling back with his most expansive offering to date, the full length LP “The Very Best Of Clive From Accounts.” Action items include lead-off single “Save Me” with its driving organ stabs, soulful vocals, exuberant steel pans and just a touch of acid, as well as second single “Heavier” which lives up to its name as a dark and weighty club number that boasts some heavy toasting from Riko Dann. But you’ll also want to go ahead and put a pin in “Konsumu Suru” for a more melancholic tone with Japanese vocals by Maya Kuroki & violin by Jessica Roch, the mideastern tinged “It Began,” and classic drum & bass vibes of “Spectrum” amongst others!

We’ve run the numbers and offered this record in an expanded 10 track digital version and 7 track vinyl 12” sampler, that includes a special intra-office easter egg! A true win-win, this varied EP really fleshes out the depth and breadth of Clive’s wheelhouse, and is a deep dive into modern UK club sounds.

The long-standing collaboration between Eli Escobar and critically acclaimed singer and songwriter Nomi Ruiz has been years in the making. The two Puerto Rican New York native’s first collab in 2011 ‘Desire’, on Stretch Armstrong's Plant Music, was an electrifying club cut turned torch song. They’ve since featured on various releases like their 2013 cover of Boy George's ‘Somebody to Love Me’ on Nervous Records and ‘Shadow Dancer’ in 2015 as part of Nomi’s Jessica 6 electro-pop outfit, so it was only natural for the duo to launch an official joint project.

While working on the ‘Love Louder’ LP the duo were faced with the loss a friend and one third of Eli’s legendary party Night People, James Dewitt aka DJ BluJemz. James, Eli, and Nomi have always shared a deep love for their hometown and have done their best to keep the culture alive by participating in the constant shift of its cultural landscape. In 2023, Escobar opened his club in Brooklyn, Gabriela, named after another friend who passed during the pandemic. Gabriela Mejia was known for curating the original subMercer making it home to local underground DJ elite with an adjacent subMercer Record label. The two had once discussed opening a place together so naming the venue after her Eli says, “This was my way of bringing her along in the best way I could.”

‘Love Louder,’ while laced with dancefloor gems like the howling house track ‘Heathens’ and nostalgic ode to freestyle ‘Full Fantasy,’ takes a surprising emotional turn as it seems to call for pause and presence in a fleeting world. The album opens with the pulsing piano driven title track ‘Love Louder’ where Ruiz borrows lyrics from the late Donny Hathaway singing, “tomorrow may never come, tomorrow is only made for some.” ‘Love Louder’ is Eli & Nomi’s attempt at honouring their hometown while grieving its past and imminent changes. On ‘Go Be Gone’ Nomi sings directly to her mourning and coming to terms with no longer being able to hold on to a world that is constantly changing.

‘Love Louder’ is Eli & Nomi’s love letter to a world that will leave you behind and a way of honouring the people and places they refuse to forget. “We deeply care about the landscape of our city. This was 100% purely to add something great to New York, because we care about the city that much” says Eli. What will always keep Eli, Nomi and the friends they’ve lost along the way connected is their love for the city that made them who they are and brought them closer together through music and nightlife.

Next up on the RNT 7” series - JKriv & Megatronic reunite to drop “Out Of Time”, a thunderous club track with an urgent message. 
Building slowly at first with layered percussion, Meg’s spoken vocal dances poetically around themes of disillusionment and alienation with our modern digital age. As the instrumentation opens up into stabbing synths and growling bass, the track climaxes in a repeated vocal chant.

 This maxi-single house 7” is prime for the club with a fresh instrumental on the flip. Play loud!
