Kapote loves the funk. And he loves Blaxploitation movies. The black underground cinema from the 1970ies. Kapote samples dirty talk from these movies and puts it on his bass lines. Melodic bass lines with a heavy 1970 funk vibe. Bass lines that can create a sexual tension. Kapote adds a few warm, jazzy Rhodes piano chords and a lot of reverbs and filtering. And the music rolls. Often more like a jam then like a constructed piece of music. In the highest points this music is pure endorphin. It’s 4 to the floor  - but it has a soulful analogue sound. Kapote says he was listening  to records from old Detroit label Red Planet and Parisian downtempo pioneers Motorbass and La Funk Mob while making this record. And yes, the vibe is there.
Like these guys Kapote likes to build his musical trips around snippets from old funk vinyl. Adding beats with vintage drum machines and creating an eclectic trip into a universe full of jazzy bits, noisy drums and dirty samples.

@interstate98's first release on @waxtefacts was ‘Vanice Beach’, a funky roller that owes as much to disco as the club. He’s followed that up in perfect fashion with a solo EP for the label.

Kicking that EP off is ‘Karl-Löwe-St. Groove (ft. Biroll)’, a track that opens with melancholy piano before erupting in a blaze of searing disco samples packed to the rafters with funk and groove. It’s one for peak-time dancefloor destruction.

Felipe Gordon is back on Forbidden Cuts with some tasty grooves in the form of Run Run Run from the forthcoming "Jambalaya" EP. The Bogota-based producer’s unique blend of house rhythms and acidic textures sit well within the roster of the Discotexas subsidiary. Filtered percussion and hazy arpeggios draw the track in before dropping into a classic piano progression. Driven by its hypnotic grooves the track bounces in and out of its funky hook maintaining a club friendly dynamic edge. Compared to his track Chiclago released on Forbidden Cuts in 2016, Run Run Run places more focus on the warmth and vibe rather than catching the attention with an aggressive groove. As the layers progress, vocal samples cut through the mix and compliment the wobbly bassline. In breakdowns the track slips into spacey psychedelic environments and quickly jump back into the main refrain.

Run Run Run is another friendly reminder of the carefully curated selections on Forbidden Cuts. With an emphasis on variety, the Lisbon-based label seeks to represent the diversity of culture within the Portuguese scene. Gordon’s creations drift around the multicultural influences in Lisbon while also maintaining his own distinct warmth and arrangements. Pairing up with Forbidden Cuts again could see him take another step towards reaching an even greater audience.

Fast rising producer Felipe Gordon continues to impress, with his latest offering landing on S3A's Sampling As An Art Records via the 'Crossroads Project Vol. 2' compilation.

Here he supplies his soulful house cut 'Liberal Pie' which is highlighted by squelching acid stabs, airy vocal hooks and a warm melody, a sound profile that finds Felipe Gordon in top from once again.

From the @outplay camp comes Fouk’s new sub label 24 Carrot.  It’s for all the ‘other’ tracks, the bits that don’t necessarily fit on a regular Outplay EP.

Whether it’s an edit, a loose pumping house track, or just straight up weird stuff, 24 Carrot is whatever takes their fancy really.

 24 Carrot #1 is a collection of tracks from Outplay’s very own @junktion and Fouk..

On the A-side Junktion comes at you with “The Search”.  It’s an uplifting piano vocal disco tune which will be sure to move those dancing feet move.

 

The flipside is Fouk’s turf.  “That’s Pretty Vague” amps it up as a groovy bass line house track broken with toughened up synths. The tongue in cheek vocals lighten the mood, while staying pretty vague.

Closing out the EP is “Paahdy”, which says it all.  It’s straight up house with nods to Chicago, which is perfect for a damn good paahdy.
