The latest 'Paper Years' compilation is here, and what a treat. We take a retrospective look at Florida's very own nu-disco bodyrocker and head honcho at Whiskey Disco, Sleazy McQueen. 

Going back over 10 years, he has provided us with a bundle of dance floor flavours, starting with the proto-house of the Reconnect EP in 2011. Reworks and remixes followed as he joined the Paper family; Crazy P, Flash Atkins, Richard Seaborne and Leon Sweet were all sprinkled with his magic disco dust. The label has also been a home to his Space Coast project, for a slightly deeper side of things in a collaboration with Jorge Collazo. 

The compilation features production highlights, as well as choice reworks and remixes. And if that wasn't enough, there's a brand new track from his disco den to make the comp a must have.

DC Promo Tracks: Voorn & Salvador "Every Man Loves"

Aura Safari's richly immersive Island Dreams album has been remixed by a selection of artists close to Hell Yeah. Ahead of them releasing their own originals on the label in 2025, SIRS, Calm, Dawn Again, Secret Soul Society and Aura Safari themselves all contribute to the collection which is out on 14 March.

First up, Japanese downtempo hero Calm offers up a signature Mellow Mellow Acid remix and dub version of 'Sur Mon Balconnet' that is smooth and zoned out as cosmic synths and gentle acid loops ripple next to whimsical reeds. New Balearic beat boss My Friend Dario's take on 'Riserva Naturale' is a percussive tropical jumble with lots of open space for deep thinking. Sirsounds Records label head SIRS returns to the label after his Woman EP earlier this year. He flips 'Wave Riding' into a loose-limbed and funky sound with 80s pads and well-treated vocal hooks. He also adds his own snappy drums and ass-wiggling basslines to 'Disco Mantra'.

Dawn Again dropped his widely acclaimed 'pubwave' album last year and has already backed it up with more escapist originals in 2025. His version of 'Wave Riding' casts you free from land and floats you out to sea on a raft of rubbery bass and widescreen synths. Secret Soul Society aka Cal Gibson, one-half of Nottingham's deep house and downtempo outfit Neon Heights back in the 2000s, steps up to rework 'Dancing in the Moonlight'. It's a dubbed out Afro disco number with playful horns and wobbly rhythms. Elsewhere Aura Safari rework several of their own originals with new dub versions that bliss them out for ever deeper dance floor trips.

This collection brings an array of new yet sympathetic perspectives to the still magical originals.

Aura Safari - Wave Riding (SIRS Remix)

JKriv returns to home base Razor-N-Tape with the Intuition EP, a strong statement of how far his sound has traveled in the 2+ years since his last artist release on the label.

Blueprint, a driving club burner rooted on an unrelenting bass line, builds slowly through conversational synth elements until it opens up into a soulful vocal loop that explodes in a euphoric peak. The title track of the EP is a dubby slow roller that was equal parts inspired by 90s Ryuichi Sakamoto records and modern G-funk. Over its lithe piano, hooky vocoder melodies, and rolling bass, Megatronic delivers a melancholic message of relationship loss and renewal, and coda vocals are added by J himself.

Zone 1, an ode to David Morales’ amazing Red Zone 90s remix catalog, drives hard with insistent analog drums and absolutely filthy bass beneath a pillowy layer of lush and acidic synth elements. Wearing the influence of J’s favorite producer Larry Heard proudly on its sleeve, Paula’s Dance is a symphony of intertwining analog gear, with a mysterious and gorgeous vocal by Mexican singer Pahua.

Completed while JKriv was undergoing treatment for lymphoma in the latter part of 2024, this record is both deeply personal and a triumphant statement of determination under adversity. The beautiful cover artwork by The Myno captures both the vulnerability and focus that defined the period in which J made this music.
