Some hot nu-disco grooves from South African producer Brian Basil van Heerden here on the Wild Cat EP. He is founder and owner of the legendary vinyl store Camino Records, DJ since 1998, founder and owner of Strutmode Recordings - in addition to being one half of Janova Jacks and Southside High. From the slo-mo/lo-slung sleaze of "Funking It Up" and the title track - which is followed by by an electric rendition by label stalwarts Yam?Who and the late night boogie down groove of "Flashback" - it is clear that Brian Snr can bring the funk, whatever the occasion!

Between 2006 and 2008 i (Tonic) made a few edits on a label called 'Mindless Boogie' under a few different names (Tonic, Skinny Joey, Rubber Room). The label was vinyl only, so the tracks are pretty hard to find by now. It's a shame to let them go to waste, so here they are... Go and multiply!

Rayko and James Rod's "Classics of Arrikitaun" re-edit series consistently hits the mark, something we attribute to their often left-of-centre choice of source material. This seventh volume in the series is naturally both on-point and action packed. Rayko kicks things off with the brilliantly pitched-down P-funk chug of "Dude" - all baggy electric piano riffs, squelchy electronics and hazy talkbox vocals - before returning to action later in the EP via the ricocheting drum machine hits, eyes-closed guitars and swirling chords of 1980s alternative synth-pop cut "Night of Dragons". James Rod explores similar sonic territory on chugging Balearic synth-pop revision "Hi Ho Te", while "Love It" is a bounding, sun-kissed version of a mid-80s, post-boogie pop hit.

On the A side, Midnight Swing is peak-time house affair with pulsating chords and infectious sampled vocals, while Bleu Ciel smooths it out with luscious synths and a familiar voice over a driving classic drum machine beat. @1codycurrie turns in a jazzy and bumpin remix of Bleu Ciel on the flip, adding his own vocals into the mix and the record winds down with the stripped-down and sultry Broken Idyll.

In "Vai Ser Muito Bom" ("it's going to be great" in Portuguese), the "garota de Ipanema" (the girl from Ipanema) invites Les Hiboux celebrate Carnival in Rio de Janeiro. She lists with excitement all the wonders of carnival and of the brazilian culture as a whole.
The single is released with 3 quality remixes:
- a remix "Bloco" (which is the traditional gathering of percussionists in street carnivals) by YUKSEK.
- a slow techno remix "I don't Speak portuguese" by CLAAP! because the meaning of the lyrics no longer exists in his version !
- a "Maneiro" (chill, relax) remix from V4YS, perfect to watch the sunset with a caipirinha in your hand.
