Underground System returns to Razor-N-Tape with the Looking In EP - a 5-track offering of fresh originals and remixes. Ranging from low-slung balearic grooves, to driving left-field funk and urgent uptempo backbeats, the record is a fine-tuning of the US sound, complete with their signature flute and synth soundscapes, driving percussion, and catchy offbeat vocal hooks. On the B-side, RNT mainstays Nenor and Clive From Accounts take two of the tunes into clubbier territory, with a pair of remixes primed for the dance floor.

It includes the sunniest grooves you’ve heard this year. ’Shir Khan Presents Black Jukebox Disco Jam 01’ is a soundsystem-ready disco-house jam which tickles the subwoofers beautifully and seems purpose built for eyes-wide-shut Summer terrace play in big outdoor spaces. Black Jukebox is traversing the wide spectrum of ‘dancefloor’ music.  There’s much to excite: All four tracks are built for rooftop parties with the deep V crew.
From slo-mo housed up boogie-soul, to a loft-party future classic, to a feel-good, sun-blushed, druggy, late night electric jam, to main room filtered disco house and subbass-bugged R&B…it’s all there.  It’s no wonder the Black Jukebox Vinyl series became buy-on-sight and quick to disappear. Music continues to evolve and lions continue to roar!  Thus is the case with Michael The Lion and his first EP on Soul Clap Records. Great music often pays homage to its foundational past and Michael’s original music accomplishes this with his sample-based focus rooted in a disco-funk-soul core but with a keen sensibility for today’s dance floor. His incorporation of live vocals from Amy Douglas’ gutsy performance on the modern funk monster “Get It On” results in original songs vs. the “one hour bedroom tracks” that proliferate today. 

Bosq was put on remix duty for the EP, and here he describes his process - "I decided to approach this remix a little different and write an entirely new song under Amy's vocals. I took her (incredible) performance and just jammed along, I think I started with piano. It ended up being I think the most instruments I've ever played on a single track. From piano, Rhodes, percussion, drums, bass and once I mustered the courage for saxophone and trumpet too. It was a different approach to remixing for me. I treated it more like writing an original track than a remix. In my head this track lives on a dance floor somewhere like the loft in the early 70s, I hope it can take y'all there too!"

From the upfront boogie of “Relaxa,” to the stomping “Babaluae,” the tropical funk of “Rainha do Mar,” the downtempo sway of “Era Um Era,” to the almost balearic-leaning “Dotô” and more, this mini-album contains a wide swath of Brasilian styles and flavors.
