A New Day

This track took me out of my comfort zone. Up to this point in my career, I had only worked with rock and metal artists. I had just built my studio and began advertising as Razortoe Productions. PROPL3X approached me looking for work and I agreed to take on the project. 

We recorded the hook with local singer Jordan Schrade and the rap pieces were recorded by Cody Ross and Cody Pringle, both of Sidney, NE. I did not produce the beat, but I recorded the vocals and mixed and mastered the track. Based on the timeline, I guess I can say this is officially my first serious track to come from Razortoe Productions.

Sacrifices by PROPL3X feat. Jordan Schrade (2011)

The year was 2020 and I think it may be needless to say that the world as we knew it had been put on hold. We couldn’t go out because we were picking up our food outside of restaurants wearing masks, standing 6 feet apart to enter the grocery store, and we certainly weren’t going to concerts or having people over to our houses to hang out, or in my case, record music.

I used this downtime to go through old unfinished tracks and projects that lived on my hard drives that were never properly finished. In that collection, I found tracks from Dreams Lead West from 2013. We recorded all of these songs while I still lived in Sidney, NE, but the band broke up before we could finish them.

Fortunately, the only thing that was really missing were the drums and vocals. This seemed like a pretty simple fix, considering I had a full drum kit, mic’d and ready to go in my basement. As a band, we had discussed releasing our songs as instrumental anyway, so it was  and easy dilema to settler. I mic’d up the drums and laid down the drum tracks.

Recording, mixing, and mastering is a pretty solid way to spend your time isolated from the outside world during a global pandemic. This album is a testament to that time. “Theta” by Dreams Lead West is an instrumental story told through the mind of a traveler navigating this challenging chapter of life.

The artwork displays that journey, beginning in the neck of the person in the image and moving through each track as outlined by each “chamber” of the mind.

“The Bridge” is the slow easy track from the album.
