“Arrrrggghaaa arrrrghaaaa! Cries Tarzan, and all the beasties come a running. The ground shakes to a thousand pairs of thundering hooves. Tarzan stands stock still in a large clearing, wet-look soft rock hair glistening in the sunlight, loincloth tight, nonchalantly cleaning his nails as the beasts bear down on him… Oooof! The beasties just steamrollered over him and come to a screeching halt at the feet of…  Charlie Beale! As I live and breathe! “Awright Geezers?” says Charlie, “Welcome to Freemixed Nuts Volume 4” and the elephants trumpet euphorically. 

The camera pans around to Leo who’s wearing a banana fancy dress outfit, grinning from ear to ear in the arms of a lovestruck silverback. Waggles and The Fritz are in matching pink tights and tu-tu’s, instructing a chorus line of flamingos the flamenco. Dephicit has covered his chin with lemon curd (again) and is now sporting an incredibly hipster beard made entirely of ants and wasps. X-Ray Ted is playing with the monkeys…oooh, they really shouldn’t be flinging that stuff around, it’ll get in someone’s eye! Get a room! Mr Stabalina is teaching the cutie meerkats to swear, he’s going to hell for that! Bear Twists is..oh my god, he’s TWISTING BEARS! Oh wait, he’s just giving Baloo a Chinese burn. General News turns to the camera, waves a glitter cannon filled with hallucinogenic frogs and says in his best Tony Montana voice, “Say hello to my little friends” and fires his psychoactive ammo. Bam!  …hey, why are my hands so big? Why has everything gone purple? Woah, can you see elephants?

Back in the heady days of the 1990s, some freelance work took the Fort Knox Five into one of the seedy back alleys of Dupont Circle. This alley had one of Washington, DC’s historic carriage houses, and barely hanging on the wall they spotted a relic from a bygone era, a sign advertising the long shuttered McGuires Audio Shop. The sign came home with FK5 and has been hanging in their studio ever since, a reminder of Washington, DC’s epic music heritage. The name and the sign itself are the inspiration for this new instrumental tune from FK5, a return to the classic simplicity and urban cool of yesteryear. “McGuires Audio Shop” is mood music, and the mood is cool like that.

Get ready to take a head-nodding and toe-tapping stroll as the infectious grooves of “McGuires Audio Shop” takes you on a musical journey. Crisp drum breaks and funky beats are complemented by hard-swinging horns throughout. The Horns contributed by the incredible Stuart Cole of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. Listen carefully and you will hear the sound of record scratching, a nod to DJ culture no doubt. A simple tune, yet complex with rich layers, it comes complete with a full breakdown that builds back up under a sweet guitar melody. The guitar licks of Rob Myers, of Thievery Corporation fame, can be heard throughout the track as well. On Dr Hypenstein, Redtenbacher's Funkestra brings their danceable brand of funk, laying down 13 of their funkiest grooves yet, from the fluty can't-stop-your-feet sounds of the title track to the heavy crunch of "Swagger," then letting the atomic dogs out with "Cave Canem" and the percolating "Funktionality."

London-based bassist, composer, arranger and bandleader Stefan Redtenbacher is the mastermind behind Dr Hypenstein, which includes the bass-driven "Bass Face" and "Bassbulator," the dare-you-not-to-move "Right On It" and "Supergalactic," and expands on previous material to incorporate electronic sounds in all the while standing proud with the history of funk.

This is the eighth album from Redtenbacher's Funkestra, which regularly performs at (and packs) London's legendary 606 Club and other established London venues. Guest musicians have included Fred Wesley, Alfred "Pee Wee" Ellis, "Doc" Kupka, Lee Thornburg and Lenny Pickett from Tower of Power, Eric Krasno of Soulive, Stanton Moore of Galactic and the horn sections from Prince, Incognito and The Brand New Heavies.

The Austrian-born Redtenbacher fell for Herbie Hancock and Maceo Parker early on, then studied at the Vienna Conservatory and Boston's Berklee College of Music, and has recorded and performed with legends including Steve Winwood, Jack Bruce, Amy Winehouse, Lulu, Mica Paris, and Herb Alpert.
