Menhir is a music and art collective formed by singer Coco Moya (@mediococo) and producer Iván Cebrián, based in Spain. In between contemporary electronics, ambient, and minimalism music. Menhir creates immersive musical experiences by combining analog synthesis soundscapes, ethereal voices, and layered sound processing.

Menhir's note: 

This mix is the result of exploring some of our musical influences. It features a couple of surprises, such as a recording we made of Gregorian chant at the monastery of Silos, a renowned site for this musical form across the peninsula. It's quite fascinating and beautiful how it blends into the mix with absolutely contemporary music. In essence, we were seeking music for listening and music as a form of knowledge.

My next guest on Yax Invites is miss behave, an evolving DJ from Eora (Sydney). 

Her passion for pushing boundaries and experimentation with diverse sounds has seen her firmly entrench herself in the underground Eora scene, where she often plays outside the confines of club walls at ‘doofs’ or innerwest warehouses. She experiments with a variety of sounds that share a common theme of psychedelic and percussive influence across the realms of trance, techno, tekno, breaks, and more, blending and merging them to create energetic and intriguing soundscapes.

"This set was recorded at the recent Raw Gadigal event, where I played after Alpha Tracks from 3-5am. I was super super keen for this set as I have a lot of darker/more intense/harder music that I love so much but don't usually feel I have the opportunity to play. This slot, along with the lineup, event and crowd allowed me to explore this side of my USB freely, and I had so much fun doing so. This set journeys through heady psytrance/trance, tribe, dubstep, hardtek, and some glitchy squelchy driving techno. I am so grateful I got to play this as my final set back home for a little while".

For the past 20 years, Jorge Ortiz de Pinedo, known by his moniker STBL (@stable-mechanism), has been developing his work in the realms of electronic music and sound art. With beginnings deeply rooted in the most elusive and daring music, he has strived to maintain a stylistic coherence, oscillating between distinctly minimalist approaches and more "musical" ones, always balancing sobriety and rhetoric.

Author's note: My proposal for Temple clearly reflects all the paths I have been exploring in recent years, utilising field recordings, generative synthesis, and more classical ambient patterns. As is customary, each live performance by STBL is ephemeral and unique to each occasion, making this recording a snapshot of the present and a memory of my appearance at the marvellous Espacio Perpendicular.

Portal: What Lies Beyond.

Episode 05: Porter Brook

Following an extended break from our podcast series, we are very happy to return with another deep dive, this time expertly curated by Porter Brook. Taking his name from one of Sheffield’s great rivers, his sound and ethos is rooted in the Steel City - where the juxtaposition of a decaying post-industrial landscape against the vibrancy of a city at one with its neighbouring National Park has shaped a creative and expansive sound. Further refining his work with fresh influences from his current residence in Leipzig, Porter Brook walks the line between the clubland and the esoteric, showcased by a string of great releases on the likes of GROUNDWORK, Electroménager, and Trule.

Our first encounter with Porter Brook was at one of our most infamous early Motif parties in Leeds, a night that we find ourselves still reminiscing about to this day. We have since followed his career with keen interest, most recently witnessing the launch of the ‘Second Born’ imprint of which he is co-runner and debut artist with his EP ‘Prefrontal Asymmetry’.

We’re therefore delighted to have him deliver episode five of `What Lies Beyond’ - presenting a mix of deep, tripped out percussions and rich textures. Both hypnotic and playful, this rhythmic delight is both infectious and immersive.
