In folk tradition, a child born with "a veil" or "a caul," i.e. amniotic membrane over their face, will have "second sight," or the dark gift of prophecy, etc. That fascinates me. So I wrote a song about it and included a fuzz bass solo. I also got to employ cool words like "eventide" and "clove."

I became friends with Johnny Cash in 1959 when I worked at KGW and he appeared at Portland's Division Street Corral. After returning to Vancouver I brought him into CKWX for an on air interview.  This continued for years. I can't remember how many times I was emcee  for his shows. He was always a warm man and treated everyone like we mattered.

Johnny Cash sold more than 90 million records worldwide. You'll remember some of his biggest hits: "I Walk the Line", "Ring of Fire" and "A Boy Named Sue". Johnny died in 2003 aged 71 but his legacy lives on to this day. The Johnny Cash Heritage Festival will be held in Dyess, Arkansas (where his family settled when he was 3) this week (October 19–21). Vitamin M, is the first collection of original songs I am releasing into the world. I wrote these songs over the course of two years, with “Willow Tree,” “Sylvia,” “Siamese Twin,” being recorded about three feet from bed and “Murphy’s Song” being recorded in Area 52 studios. I wrote this song years ago after reading a book called "The World Inside".  A sci-fi book about a future people who all lived indoors and were never allowed out.  Give our current (2020 Pandemic) circumstances it kind of applies today, no?  Hope you like it.

DIFFERENT TOWN

Little Richard, a true rock'n'roll original, passed away this morning (5/9/2020). He was 87. This interview was recorded June 12, 1957. Little Richard was appearing at the PNE Exhibition Gardens, and I persuaded him to visit CKWX. There, Richard submitted to the interview, but it wasn’t long before he walked over to a piano sitting in the corner of the studio. He sat behind it and entertained a bunch of us for about fifteen minutes. I worked with Little Richard many times over the years. I'll always treasure my autographed copy of this Rolly Ford photo.

Two songs from the film Lost Horizon (1973) directed by Charles Jarrott and starring Peter Finch, Liv Ullmann, Sally Kellerman, George Kennedy, Michael York, Olivia Hussey, Bobby Van, James Shigeta, Charles Boyer, and John Gielgud.  

The songs "The things I will not miss" and "Reflections" were written by the great songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David.

Singing lead vocals are the wonderful Kelly Hogan and Nora O'Connor who also sing on Fancey's upcoming album "Eyes of Fire".  Musical wizard Allan Rodger plays drums and Hammond organ and produced.  Alex Hall engineered with excellence.

Robert Burke Warren is a musician, writer, performer and teacher. His songwriting appears in movies and TV and on albums by Rosanne Cash, RuPaul, and rockabilly queen Wanda Jackson. As a globetrotting bassist in the last century, he toured extensively in an Econoline van. In the mid 90s, he spent a year as Buddy Holly in the West End musical Buddy: the Buddy Holly Story. His rock n roll novel, Perfectly Broken, was published in 2016. His one-man show Redheaded Friend debuted in 2019. For a sweet 10 month period in 2019/2020, Woodstock-based folk rockers The Mammals brought him out of semi-retirement to tour the U.S. with them as bassist.
