This week we begin our Generosity Series as we sit down with our VP of Generosity Josh Henson. Generosity is simple, it is giving a resource that we have to meet a need. Biblical generosity is all about stewardship. All the resources we can use to be generous, don't come from us, God is the source and owner of all these resources. If we don't understand this it's hard for us to be generous. When we understand all we have is God's we are free to use these resources to do the work of the Lord. It is ultimately a blessing to be a part of the work that God is doing. 

"A lot of times we don't run out of resources, we run out of faith."

We often look at generosity as a switch to turn on or turn off but God says there is an unlimited amount. God says in every situation be generous. "You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God." 2 Corinthians 9:11 (NIV). God wants you to unlock those resources he has given you. As you release your resources to the Lord, you can now focus on where the needs are. Culture says if you want it all go get it, but God says if you want it all you have to give it all.

This week we continue our Generosity Series as we sit down with Men of Iron advocate Corby Ziegler. All this month we are talking about Biblical generosity and what it means to be generous. Corby has been involved with Men of Iron for over 15 years.

"I remember seeing the difference in men's lives as they went through Men of Iron at my church."

Corby started investing financially in Men of Iron over the years and eventually got even more involved. Corby had the opportunity a couple years later to go through an executive mentorship with Men of Iron. Corby knew it was the right time to go to the next level.

"Before Men of Iron I believe I was a good father and husband, but Men of Iron equipped me to be even better."

After going through a Men of Iron mentorship Corby realized the importance of this program for all men, and it led him to become a monthly partner with Men of Iron. Being a monthly partner has provided him a constant commitment to give to a program he believes in. Corby's dream for Men of Iron and his church, is for every man to be mentored or be a mentor. "If we are not pouring into another man's life, or allowing another man to sharpen us, we get pretty stagnant."

This week we wrap up our Generosity Series as we sit down VP of Generosity Josh Henson to talk about what it practically looks like to give and be generous. Jesus said it is more blessed to give than receive. How do we do generosity well and intentionally? It all starts with cultivating a generous heart. It’s important to understand that we have been given resources to meet needs

You may be thinking there are so many organizations and places I can give to, how do I determine where and how much? Start where you are at, what resources has the Lord given you and how can you be generous to others in need?

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-8.

Look around and see what needs God has put in front of you. Often generosity is about opportunity, prepare your hearts for these opportunities. If you have a neighbor that is hungry, go feed him. Be generous to those in your circle of influence. Your generosity should be spirit-led

“If you the Lord keeps putting a need on your heart, you should be giving there.”

Pray about it. Ask the Lord to reveal to you where you should be generous. Be sensitive to that and respond. If you are married, get your wife and kids involved in the process of generosity. Give cheerfully and without compulsion.

Generosity is taking something you don’t own and giving it to meet a need that you can’t meet. God ultimately uses generosity as a tool to deepen our faith in Him. 

Through our generosity we get to be a part of some amazing things God is doing. How much should I be giving? The Lord asks us to give more, wherever you are at, give more. Wherever you are at with your giving, just start.

The group of people that are dying of overdoses at the highest rate, by far, are men in their 30s-50s. This group is also statistically less likely than others to ask for help. This is one of the biggest reasons why it can be difficult to implement effective prevention strategies targeting working age men. 

My guest this month is Dr. Monty Burks, Deputy Director of the Tennessee Governor’s Faith-Based and Community Initiative, which seeks to empower community resources to tackle the biggest challenges of our time, including overdose, addiction, and recidivism. Monty is also a certified peer recovery specialist with years of experience engaging people with substance use disorder and meeting them where they are, so I could think of no better person with which I wanted to discuss one of the main consequences of these deaths: the impact on their families. 

After all, many of these men were fathers, as are many of those men still in the throes of active addiction. What can we do to reach this surprisingly vulnerable population and help them become the best versions of themselves? 

In this conversation, we talk about the ways that we the people of Tennessee can step up to help, from foster care to peer recovery to even just listening to someone who needs to be heard.

Chachy is a dynamic and multifaceted audio engineer, producer and recording artist who grew up in Salinas and San Jose, California. Inspired equally by the music that soundtracked his youth–Sublime, Atmosphere and Slightly Stoopid; classic artists whose names alone evoke a sound all of their own–Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Bob Marley and Eric Clapton; local legends from the Bay Area–Mac Dre, E-40 and Traxamillion; and modern luminaries like producer Gramatik and hip-hop icon J. Cole, Chachy seeks to bring these unique voices into conversation to create an eclectic sound unique to him that speaks to people as loudly as idols. Providing solid ground from which to view a past that has been, at times, tumultuous and filled with strife, music has been a safe space to release emotions, a place for self-reflection, self-care and healing. It also provides a lofty atmosphere from which to imagine a future illuminated by the often cited, but less often exemplified, virtues of Peace, Love and Understanding. In service to this vision, Chachy established his brand Freedom Frequencies, a banner under which diverse creative endeavors will unite to speak the language of music, a language without borders.

Drew, Brandon and Jay are childhood best friends that podcast from DC, Raleigh and Boston. I'm from Gaston Alabama and still Have a southern twang in a few of my words even after living in Bloomington IL for 12 years. I now reside in Jacksonville FL and it feels great to be back in the south. By my first steps, I was a hell raiser. I've heard people say my life would make a good book but we don't have time for that right now. So I'll keep it short. By age 5 I lived in the basement of a house with rats the size of cats and roaches that could care less if the lights were on or off. My mother and stepfather did their best to raise me in a God-fearing home. My stepfather who is nothing short of my Dad (unlike the sperm donor of a psychiatrist my mother had back in the 80s) has a powerful testimony as well. A true rags to riches story. By seven years old I had my first sexual experience with a girl twice my age. By the time I was 12 I was smoking cigarettes and stealing liquor out of my parents cabinet. It was a downward spiral from there.
I've hurt a lot of people mentally and physically. I had my daughter Anniya out of wedlock at age 18. At age 23 had my son Malachi with a different woman, who I was not married to at the time, but by the grace of God I am married to now! I have eleven felony convictions on my record from the state of Illinois. I was an addict, a dealer, a thief, selfish, full of anger and just an all-around scumbag. But on this last bid I was sentenced to 5 yrs in prison. I was released after 2 1/2 years on good behavior. I prayed every day I was locked up that YHWH would take the taste for drugs and alcohol away from me and restore the relationship with my family and kids. I stayed in his word and I tried my hardest to live a life that would please Him! He answered my prayers and delivered me from my addictions. To this day I still try my hardest to live a life that pleases Him, but I fall short daily. I know I need Yahuwah and I don't deserve any of the gifts that I've been blessed with. Music drives me and lets me express my hardships and advice to others when I say music is my life that's an understatement. But YHWH's grace and mercy is shinning on me and I will never quit this mission to reach as many souls as possible through music ministry.
