I’m a Kurdish captive of Newroz dawn,

The voiceless dove of a spring undone,
A colorless flower in the weeping sun.

In the corner of a barren, silent fest,
I’m a black-cloaked beauty at her best.

The vanished hand of my proud tribe’s grace,
The bitter scent of a love I chase.

Wounded, sick—what pain can I shed?

The last sunbeam of autumn’s flame,
An aged, bitter poet with no name.

So how can I tell you what I am?
Even I doubt whether I truly am.

The broken wings

This piece was created in honor of Cole Brings Plenty—an Indigenous son, artist, and advocate whose spirit, strength, and story deserve truth and justice. The red handprint across his face represents the broader crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP), while his calm gaze calls us to action. May this project echo the voices too often silenced.
