Occupational Therapy For Children

Patty Sherman Campbell MS, OTR/L has practiced primarily as a pediatric occupational therapist with some work in productive aging in more recent years. After learning about the philosophy of Functional Medicine, and working with a Functional Medicine physician to address the health issues of her and her family, Patty dedicated herself to retraining in this paradigm. Patty had been searching for Functional Medicine training programs that would also allow her to work within her scope of occupational therapy practice. She was excited to learn of the FMCA from an IFM newsletter last year and enrolled in the program.  She will be the first occupational therapist to receive and utilize Functional Medicine Health Coaching certification in her practice.

Patty is the owner of Functional Healing and Wellness in Oxford, PA. She created Functional Healing and Wellness with the mission to partner with individuals and families to empower and teach the necessary skills needed to implement changes in the areas of nutrition, transformation of the stress response, play, movement and mindset, in order to heal and live healthier more resilient lives.  Additionally, Functional Healing and Wellness serves to spread the message of Functional Medicine to other occupational therapy practitioners, with the aim to help propel this movement in medicine forward.  Functional Healing and Wellness will also be a resource for practitioners who want strategies for helping their clients implement lifestyle interventions that address the root cause of their illness.

To address part of her mission of spreading the message of Functional Medicine, Patty gave a talk last month to the Holistic Occupational Therapy community, holisticot.org.  Topics of the talk include: 
Explaining the Functional Medicine (FM) paradigm 
Functional Medicine Health Coaching Certification through the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy
How OT’s can integrate Functional Medicine Health Coaching certification in practice
Q&A session that addresses licensure issues, billing, COTA’s using this certification, and how to find and work with a Functional Medicine practitioner in a primary care model
