For this session I've decided to mix some hardgroove techno, which I really enjoy aswell. I feel that I need to record more mixes in these different styles of techno to really discover my sound.

RE:SET // Summer Practice Session (Hardgroove) (2023)

This mix is a perfect example of the sound I pursue in my sets.
The goal is to create a rhythmic musical journey that hypnotizes the listeners while making them dance as much as possible (internally or externally).
Most of the tracks contain deep kicks and dark high-energy grooves meant to be experienced through proper speakers/headphones. Let your mind wander and I hope this set will take you away from start to finish.

RE:SET // Fall Practice Session (2023)

This is the second instalment of my techno recording series "Rhythmic Hypnotism", where I try to create a rhythmic musical journey that hypnotizes the listener through repetitive sounds and deep kicks. This time I wasn't afraid to keep a dark atmosphere for most of the set, but that is not necessarily the goal for me. It's more important that the sounds in the tracks are unique and pleasant to the ear.

RE:SET // Rhythmic Hypnotism 2 (2023)

Getting behind the decks in 2024 feels like a fresh start. Finally starting to think I'm nearing club-readiness, while simultaneously feeling that there's still a lot to improve. Knowing that the latter will probably always be the case, I decided to put more effort into pulling in new listeners. I really want to share my passion for 'true' techno with as many people as possible, introducing them to superb tracks made by very talented producers.

As usual, this mix contains repetitive sounds and deep kicks, with a low amount of build-ups and drops, retaining a rhythmic hypnotic flow. A dark atmosphere alternates with uplifting melodies to keep things interesting and fresh, pulling the listener in and out of a trance-like state.

Set the Mood with RE:SET!

Set the Mood is a concept-based mix-series focussing on opening-sets. 

Nick, also known as RE:SET, is a techno enthusiast from Utrecht. Although he grew up listening to mostly rock and metal, he was also raised with house music starting at the age of 8, which significantly influenced his current connection with dance music. As soon as he was old enough to attend dance music events, RE:SET fell in love with techno, captivated by its diverse elements.

The covid-19 pandemic was a turning point for RE:SET. Unable to attend events, he began DJing to fill the void, which deepened his passion for techno. He became addicted to discovering tracks and developed a keen interest in sharing music from lesser-known, talented producers. For RE:SET, there's no greater feeling than seeing a crowd respond to the music he loves.

RE:SET's sets are normally characterized by what he considers proper techno: continuous, danceable music with hypnotic and groovy elements. While he typically plays at a high BPM, he has recently started enjoying slower tempos, finding the art of managing energy and flow at different speeds to be a rewarding challenge.

RE:SET believes a perfect opening set creates a welcoming vibe, allowing listeners to find their place on the dancefloor and feel comfortable. The music begins with a mellow energy, encouraging dancers to start moving at a relaxed pace, gradually warming up for the more intense dancing that will come later. A good opener sets the stage for the following artists, ensuring a seamless continuation of the musical journey.

Having explored mixing in slightly lower BPMs for a while, experimenting with varying levels of energy. I found that it was about time to record a mix with some PEAK TIME energy 😈.

As usual; this set contains proper techno, retaining a rhythmic flow and hypnotic energy throughout. This set does not let go of your attention, as the pounding kicks keep coming and coming, making you wanna dance non-stop!
