Slangston Hughes, THE Connoisseur of Fine Rhyme, can be summed up in the following quote from fellow emcee, Mr. J'ai: "The future of hip-hop has arrived. Slangston Hughes' music is a fresh blend of sensible lyrics, head bobbing beats, and unpredictably witty wordplay. Slangston is pushing the envelope and destroying all stereotypes of what a Southern emcee is supposed to sound like. He represents the new movement of unheard, progressive New Orleans rap." Hughes was the first ever two and three-time winner of the Microphone Co-Rivalry Emcee Competition, a tournament-style, crowd judged emcee contest. Both as a solo artist & member of New Orleans supergroups Tygah Woods and Superugly, has opened for Doomtree, Freddie Gibbs, Rapper Big Pooh (Little Brother), Tanya Morgan, Mickey Factz, Akil(Jurassic 5), etc. Slangston is currently founder and curator of Uniquity, a monthly showcase that highlights the variety of talent in New Orleans and honors the city’s musical roots, backed by the live fusion jazz band, Fo On the Flo. Slangston is also a contributing author to New Orleans: The Underground Guide (2010).
