Mumbai Science deliver a playful, acid-inspired remake of “The Moon – Blow the Speakers”.

Having only recently released their highly acclaimed debut album ‘Déjà Vu’, the Belgian duo now shares one of their private festival weapons. Building on the raw, raucous synthesizers from the original, Mumbai science add their own quirky twist in this smashing rework. The duo stripped the original track – a Belgian cult-record from early 2000 - from its retro-ish, colder components and adopted a more feminine approach. Guest vocalist April Rose (also known from ‘Déjà Vu’) re-recorded the vocal samples. Combined with acidy basslines, loony echo’s and charming arpeggios, “Blow the speakers” becomes somewhat more of a spiritual trip.

And seemingly, that’s what Mumbai Science is after. “In times of darkness and desperate need for guidance, people have always looked up to the skies. Maybe for a sign from the gods, a divine intervention to help them find the way.” explains Jonas - the taller and darker-haired of the pair, when asked what made them choose ‘The Moon’. Well, leave it to Mumbai Science to lead party people from all over the world to a new era of prosperity.

Maltese X-Man The Element lands on Engrave Ltd with a piece of dark matter including remixes from italian promising duo VII Circle and our man Musumeci.

The original mix is dominated by an obscure pulsating beats and brass combination, culminating into a dramatic break just in time to breath before the final ride. Andrea Vallisneri and Andrea Casari under their VII Circle moniker turns Morphius into an even darker and more hypnotic atmosphere giving back a deeper perspective of the main hook. Finally Musumeci pushes things towards more progressive and melodic territories adding a hell of an arpeggio he found behind the texture of original version.

For sure the darkest Engrave Ltd so far!

Charlotte de Witte, without doubt one of Belgium's fastest rising talents in the techno circuit, and known from two strong EP's on Tiga's Turbo label, makes her debut on OFF.

The EP starts off with "Trip", aptly name due to its cinematic sounddesign and arrangement. Charlotte's trademark use of vocals ooze character, and haunting synths complemented by a laidback but steady drum-foundation are the ingredients of this track.

Sweden's Techno-legend Cari Lekebusch delivers the first remix, a functional and linear interpretation, which is sure to be heard on festval dancefloors during the late summer.

TWR72 of Amsterdam, themselves very much what you would call a "current breakthrough act", are responsible for remix number two, a contemporary interpretation based on syncopated rhythms.

The EP is completed with "Repeat", a reduced drum-tool built around a repetitive vocal hook.

Altogether a strong statement of a promising young artist and another proof of the ongoing evolution of OFF Recordings.

After the deranged chamber-edits of 'Vienna' for Where To Now?, U returns to the well-trodden path between flattery and irreverence in dance music with a special edition 2-track 12" for Phantasy Sound.

'Friendly Ghost' enters with a splay of combat-bongos, a thin synthetic aura draws over the fluctuating rhythms before a strangely negative bassline sets the pace in nu-wave perpetual motion, inevitably spiraling back on itself into a clattering reversal.

I started this track with a simple Prophet patch running through a Moog ring mod with loads of overdrive. It wasn't so much overdrive that it became aggressive, but enough so that it had a simple tonal quality overlaid with plenty of honest low-fi grittyness. Sometimes all it takes is getting that first timbral feature right for the rest of the track to flow from there, and this was a good example for me. 

I also knew I wanted the track to fit later on in the Emergence story, where it should be rhythmically straight enough to fit into a club show where needed, but also for the part of the show where we explore visually, the range of complex living forms and evolutionary change - it needed to capture some of that beauty of life's morphogenetic creativity.

I found the chord sequence fairly quickly, and built the drums and smooth dynamics within a few days, but I got stuck on how to complete the track. I tried hundreds of different ideas, and thought I might need to bin the project, but then luckily stumbled across some old synth jam recordings that had some moments that sounded ok. So I jumped on those and went to work on an editing job. 

It turned out that a lot of the problem I had been having was that I was trying to add too much, when for me, the chords were the hook, and what was needed was a sparse melodic addition to support the chords rather than any sort of traditional tuneful hook. In recent years I've been more and more drawn to just chord sequences as the main features of tracks musically, with the rest stripped away. When Ryan Rival Consoles was considering a remix he commented the album seemed to be all about the chords (or something to that extent), so I guess that idea is in there. Chords just seem to carry the most emotion for me for some reason (as opposed to melodies or lyrics for example).

So there it is, I hope you like the track!

Axel Picodot hits hard with « No Future », his first full album made of 11 tracks. This is a homemade production, in his very own label built with Ruben Hassid and Nico Moreno. This one year old structure signed the names of tomorrow’s industrial techno, such as Paramod, Tim Tama or Haedes. 
At first sight, the album seems purely violent. Industrial techno cares the illusion of creating a disorder, chaos out of music. That’s why death is omnipresent in Axel’s works, reminding we’re all damned to die anyway. 
However, the message wants to be clear: industrial techno puts us in a timeless environment, escaping from the future. As night walkers, we silently cross the warehouse, eager to dance. Be obsessed by the present, abandon your future.
