Ideal Audio presents the fourth and final instalment of Oliver Huntemann and Dubfire's seminal ELEMENTS series. These techno heavyweights have worked together on numerous projects over the years, but it is their Elements collaborations that have shone impressively as a complete body of work. AGUA is the final piece of the music puzzle and completes the series that first saw the light of day back in 2010 with the scorching FUEGO.

2011 brought us TERRA, firm and powerful with its devastating breakdown. 2013 saw us breathe in the mystical AIRE, harnessing the elements of the previous tracks to build a fresh and magical moment. AGUA, as its name suggests, flows effortlessly, helped in no small part by the sultry vocal of Xenia Beliayeva, but kicks in equal measure.

Signing off in such style has also lead to Ideal Audio drafting in some heavy weight talent on the remixes. Carl Craig, under his C2 moniker, dives straight in to strip the original to its core. A single drum beat, siren, clap… and then the kick. Petar Dundov twists the original’s elements into a bubbling acidic stream that washes over us. An impressive package for an impressive finale!

Since the late nineties, Roc Jiménez de Cisneros and his collaborators have been producing what they call "computer music for hooligans", inspired by geometry, metaphysics, noise, cosmology and rave culture. A vortex of generative basslines, air horns and fuzzy arpeggios, their music displays a radical and playful approach to algorithmic composition, with works available on Entr'acte, Mego, Presto!?, Diskono, Scarcelight, fals.ch and their very own ALKU.

Como solemos decir por aquí, es sorprendente la cantidad de sellos, productores y otras células creativas que han proliferado los últimos años en Barcelona, una ciudad que siempre se había caracterizado por tener muchos más clubbers que músicos. Y parece que las chicas del documental BCN ¿sello discográfico? piensan igual. A punto de estrenarse en el festival In-Edit, la película intenta definir si existe un nexo, algún punto en común en todo este maremágnum, a base de declaraciones de los protagonistas, algunos de ellos directamente vinculados al MOOG. Y para celebrarlo, qué mejor que una fiesta en el club con auténticos pesos pesados del presunto Barcelona Sound como Clip!, David M, nuestro Gus Van Sound, y los indomables Evol por partida doble, con uno de sus lives de rave deconstruido y con un DJ set con los BPMs a toda pastilla. Parece que sí que está pasando algo en Barcelona.

Entitled House Lessons, that’s just what the mix is, a 360 degree view of modern house music, from the bumpy, vibe setting opener to the bouncy, shuffling garage inflections of ‘Drama’ via the jacking Darius Syrossian remix of ‘Housin Tha Rave.’ Mixed perfectly tightly and always following an increasingly energetic narrative arc, the mix then takes in full on retro rave stabs, slick and sliding tech house from masters of the form Luna City Express and then dips into deeper, more bubbling and New York influenced house music.

Midway through the mix and fully settled into an inviting groove, unhinged and playful originals like ‘Nuts,’ ‘Psyjack’ and ‘Horny’ sandwich raw, though tech from Patrick Topping and face melting bangers from Pan Pot as remixed by Sidney himself. The latter half of the mix keeps up the pressure and features shadowy, no nonsense collaborative tracks by Sante and Sidney as well as dynamic and techno leaning solo gems like ‘Silky Thread’ and the whacked out post-dubstep rhythms of closer ’Disco Nap’.

Set for release on the 16th of February, the LP features remixes and collaborations with artists including Sante, Pan-Pot, Hot Since 82, Patrick Topping and more.

Rotterdam Rave Festival 2016 Podcast by AnD

New York City’s Veronica Vasicka very much discovered an untapped musical mine when searching for music for her radio show more than a decade ago. That mine was full of rare, overlooked and forgotten DIY synth records from the 70s and 80s and inspired her to start her own label, Minimal Wave. Since then it has become an imprint with a very focussed musical and visual identity, has spawned compilations on Peanut Butter Wolf's Stones Throw Records and has made Veronica an in demand DJ all round the world.

At those gigs, she offers up a sleek musical vision that is mirrored here in the mix she had done for our on going series.  Starting with a poignant monologue about new music, it then drops into a rugged groove that is industrial and machine made, abstract and futuristic. The ensuing hour touches on the robo-techno of Levon Vincent, terse beats and raved-up electro as well as some colourful and trippy disco. A lot is packed in, but a buffed metal sheen ties the whole thing together and subtly oozes the very essence of Minimal Wave.
