After  spending  his  adolescence  building  up  a  street  buzz  under  the  name  Young Savage,   the   Philadelphia   rapper   Shawn   Smith   reclaimed   his   own   name   for   his autobiographical debut, SINK OR SWIM: A SHAWN SMITH STORY. Once known for his voracious freestyles and quippy punchlines, Smith’s latest chapter brims with big-picture storytelling  and  astute  social  commentary.  “I  figure  I  can  be  a  spokesperson  because they never gon’ be able to tell their own story,” he says, casting a light on his Southwest Philly friends and family.  “People being aware of that cycle could open their minds up,” he adds optimistically. And yet, there’s no preachiness in his perspective. Instead, Smith has figured out a careful balance in rapping about his upbringing: he’s equal parts sharp-tongued and warm-hearted.

Philadelphia’s Jus O is one of a kind and it can be traced all the back to his upbringing and love for the entire spectrum of the arts from an early age. Born Omar Clark, Jus O was drawn to music and art from the jump, Jus attributes his older brother as his introduction to music. “I was just trying to be cool like him...I would soak up all the information I could receive from his world while in the house or outside of it” Jus says. On the other side of things Jus O was actively studying and learning about hip-hop, literally going from basketball practice at the beginning of the month and tap dance rehearsal a few weeks later. During all this, Jus O is also taking a hip-hop dance class, subconsciously training for the beats he’d be listening to and rapping over down the line. In high school, Jus O lost his father and as a way to cope and grieve, he made the deep dive into poetry and writing. As Jus began to carry his father’s legacy, little did he know his musical journey was just beginning. 

Jus O, delivers an eclectic sound to where you don’t know what you’re going to get from the Philadelphia standout, but it’s guaranteed to grab your ears. Wholly influenced by the Golden Era and mid-2000s era of hip-hop, Jus O refuses to box himself in with those sounds. His sound is nostalgic and vintage with a hefty dose of originality formed from his days picking apart beats in his hip-hop dance class. All his experiences and years studying music and art, culminated in May of 2018 with the release of “Just Uniquely Sharing Observations”, Jus O’s debut album. Garnering coverage from ItsTooMuchInfo, ButtaBlog and more, this solidified Jus’ appeal. The raw ability and evolution of Jus O led the release to over 20K streams across all platforms.

Performing in a myriad of venues and shows including, last year performing at the TLA for the Made in America pre-show. It doesn’t stop there with Jus O performing with the likes of Tierra Whack, Kirk Knight of Pro Era and the aforementioned Cam’Ron.
