Exactly one year after my 2023 release entitled 'A Love Letter To Synthesis', I return with a collection of 15 new tracks that were produced between the middle of 2023 and early 2024.

This album, as with the last, relies heavily on the sounds of classic synthesizers/drum machines like Mono/Poly, MS-20, SH-101, Jupiter-8, Juno-106, SH-2, JX-8P, System 100, Juno 60, JX-3P, TB-303, Polysix, TR-606, OB-8, TR-808, ARP Odyssey, as well as some contemporary additions to my studio like Hydrasynth, System 8, MC-707, MicroFreak, Prophet Rev2, Novation Peak, Minilogue, SE-02, and Microkorg.

A majority of the songs on this album were recorded in only one take in my home studio and recorded to high-quality video as well. The same recordings heard on this album can be seen performed live on YouTube. www.youtube.com/@JohanSebastianBot/videos

"If someone from Detroit wins, it's another win for Detroit." The duo discuss their longtime roots in the Motor City and how their work has evolved after more than 30 years in the game.

To commemorate August 8th, we're featuring an interview with the Detroit duo AUX88. Tommy Hamilton—AKA TOMTOM—and William “BJ” Smith—AKA POSATRONIX—are pioneers celebrating 35 years in the music industry, known for their work combining elements of ghetto tech, Kraftwerk-indebted techno and Miami bass. Their sound has remained consistent throughout the decades, and their influence on club music extends far and deep.

In this Exchange, RA editor Nyshka Chandran interviews the duo live from Detroit earlier this year, where they discuss their trajectory in the scene. They started out playing at local businesses, they recall—flower shops, coffee shops, cabarets and strip clubs—sometimes to no more than three people. They also unpack their creative setup and why their music has and always will be indebted to futurism and sci-fi. The duo turn their attention to the present. AUX 88 just released an EP called ALPHA WAVES and are starting a new label that will help champion local artists. In their words: "If someone from Detroit wins, it's another win for Detroit." A Perfect Organism

In celebration of 606 day (the 6th of June) I have put together a non-stop mix of songs that feature the Roland TR-606 drum machine. This mix is focused only on Electro.

The TR-606 & TB-303 launched together in 1981 as a matched pair to provide solo artists the chance to practice without other individuals, solely using the TR-606 and TB-303 as drums and bass lines to practice to, but the programming and artificial sounds made the boxes uncomfortable to use and they soon lost their luster. With a punching, mids-focused sound somewhere between the tone of the 909 and the 808, the 606 was a compact and visually-direct drum machine that had a much more discreet form factor than its siblings. The 606 has a tight punch rather than the boom of the 808, and the percussion has a distinctly metallic quality, even the snare. This gives the 606 a unified feeling that has captured the imaginations of artists for generations.
