Born in London Paul started out as a club DJ, then record shop manager, then producer. 
Since those first Dj gigs, Paul’s underlying motivation has and always will be the music; ambient, hip hop, breakbeat, soul, funk, dub, boogie, electro and Detroit techno: urban music with deep roots, social conscience and soul. 
His DJ sets fuse hi-tech electro with Detroit techno, ambience, breaks and acid, a proper journey into soulful hi-tempo electronics.
His live sets are powered by modular synthesis, analog drum machines, effects pedals and bass; dub techno meets electro meets ambient meets Hierophant.

Despite making his debut just a couple of years ago, @lloydstellar is already one of the men of the hour. The Dutch musician Erik Griffioen -the real name under the moniker- has proved to have his very own and authentic approach to electro music with releases on Bella Ursa, @crobotmuzik, or @gatedrecordings among others. His sound, obviously present in this podcast, is led by machine-like beats, melancholic pads, appealing vocoders, and a whole futuristic universe that talks about man’s greed, the conflictive relationship between humans and machines, and dazzling intergalactic battles. The Droid is the moniker of Ben Evans, a producer based in the UK, who takes inspiration from minimal based grooves and monotony.

He is also the founder of podcast series Cyber Domain and runs a label under the same brand with Leipzig based electro producer, Hardenberg.

Bio & TL:

Mariska’s approach to music production is intuitive and unconventional. Instead of following a fixed genre or format, her music serves to express her inner world in a dreamy and playful way. 

Heavily influenced by elektro, Detroit Techno and IDM of the nineties (think Drexciya, Plaid, Orbital, …), this results in a quite emotive and melodic electronic sound. The atmospheres she creates have a sometimes slightly ominous undertone, yet are filled with optimism and a hint of nostalgia. 

Starting producing at the age of 18, she was quickly discovered by DJ Stingray through Myspace in 2009. This lead to her first release of her track Insolitology on Planet E, as a part of the Urban Tribe collective. She has also released tracks on Bleep 43, Semantica, and more recently HC Records, BAOX and Electro Records.

In celebration of 606 day (the 6th of June) I have put together a non-stop mix of songs that feature the Roland TR-606 drum machine. This mix is focused only on Electro.

The TR-606 & TB-303 launched together in 1981 as a matched pair to provide solo artists the chance to practice without other individuals, solely using the TR-606 and TB-303 as drums and bass lines to practice to, but the programming and artificial sounds made the boxes uncomfortable to use and they soon lost their luster. With a punching, mids-focused sound somewhere between the tone of the 909 and the 808, the 606 was a compact and visually-direct drum machine that had a much more discreet form factor than its siblings. The 606 has a tight punch rather than the boom of the 808, and the percussion has a distinctly metallic quality, even the snare. This gives the 606 a unified feeling that has captured the imaginations of artists for generations.
